The Legal Assistant I provides foundational legal and administrative support to attorneys and Sr. Legal Assistant staff in the areas of unsecured collections and evictions. This role is designed to assist with routine tasks, maintain accurate case files, prepare standard documents, and ensure that case deadlines and court requirements are met efficiently.Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Assist with preparation of routine pleadings, forms, and correspondence.</li><li>Support the scheduling of hearings, sheriff lockouts, and other case deadlines.</li><li>Maintain organized case files, both physical and electronic, ensuring all documents are filed accurately.</li><li>Perform data entry into the firm&rsquo;s case management and billing systems.</li><li>Request checks, process invoices, and assist with file closures.</li><li>Provide follow-up communication with courts, sheriffs, and other agencies as directed.</li><li>Answer incoming calls and provide professional assistance or direct inquiries to appropriate staff.</li><li>Assist in preparing files for court, including assembling exhibits and documentation.</li><li>Update clients on case progress under supervision of the attorney or Legal Assistant II.</li><li>Perform other administrative and clerical duties as assigned.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>High school diploma or GED required; some college or legal coursework preferred.</li><li>1&ndash;2 years of experience in a law firm, collections, real estate, or related office environment.</li><li>Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.</li><li>Ability to follow instructions carefully and learn new procedures quickly.</li><li>Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and willingness to learn case management systems.</li><li>Professional written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.</li></ul>Working Conditions and Physical Requirements<ul><li>Primarily sedentary work with extended computer and phone use.</li><li>Occasional standing, walking, or lifting of up to 20 lbs.</li><li>Office environment with frequent interaction with attorneys, clients, courts, and staff.</li></ul>Key Competencies<ul><li>Dependability: Reliable and consistent in meeting deadlines and supporting team needs.</li><li>Teamwork: Works effectively under the direction of Legal Assistant II and attorneys.</li><li>Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in document preparation and file management.</li><li>Adaptability: Willing to learn and adjust to changing priorities and procedures.</li></ul>Our firm values diversity, equity, and inclusion while looking for the best qualified candidate.
