POSITION PURPOSE:

Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant II Float will perform certain clinical duties as needed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The MA II Float will complete a training program as directed by the MA Training Coordinator. The MA II Float is a position that requires a National Certification through one of the following certifying agencies; American Allied Health Association, National Center for Competency, or the National Health Career Association. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CLINICAL:
<ul>
<li>Room patients which includes but is not limited to the following duties: obtaining vital signs, verifying medications (medication reconciliation), medical history, and obtaining other pertinent information.</li>
<li>Assist physicians and nurses as needed.</li>
<li>Perform EKG&rsquo;s.</li>
<li>Perform peak flows/spirometry and administration of O2 as directed by provider.</li>
<li>Administer respiratory treatments as directed by provider.</li>
<li>Perform in-office labs and UDS and normal lab call backs.</li>
<li>Perform routine prescription refills under the supervision of the MA Lead.</li>
<li>Enter orders for medication and labs as directed by provider.</li>
<li>Scrub charts/huddle with provider and team daily.</li>
<li>Perform blood draws, if competency requirements have been met; injections and immunization administration.</li>
<li>Assist with procedures and non-complicated wound care.</li>
<li>Suture/staple removal AFTER patient is seen by provider.</li>
<li>Stock and clean rooms; use of Autoclave for sterilization and maintain machine.</li>
<li>Schedule patients for follow-up per provider.</li>
<li>Assist with the training of other staff within MA scope of practice.</li>
<li>Assist team with desktop items and answer telephone calls.</li>
<li>Maintain all logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures).</li>
<li>Work at different clinics daily, weekly and monthly.</li>
<li>Prepared to begin each shift at the designated location at the scheduled time, meet attendance standards and work the hours necessary to perform the essential functions of the jobs.</li>
<li>Follow different procedures for same duties in various departments including Specialties, Family Medicine and Pediatrics.</li>
<li>Additional duties as needed.</li></ul> 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS NON-CLINICAL:
<ul>
<li>Scrub patient charts and work on Gap List.</li>
<li>Medical Referral duties: determine where to refer if the provider has not indicated a specific provider; make patient appointments with specialist, fax all pertinent chart information, determine patient payment, and contact if appointment chart notes and documentation are not received as needed; communicate with patient regarding information required for patient&rsquo;s referral appointment; notify provider of any pre-authorization denials, review and provide guidance regarding supporting documentation that may be required for approval, and refer the patient back to their primary care provider for further instruction; process medication pre-authorizations; process insurance referral authorization requests from external facilities.</li>
<li>Call center duties: Answer telephone, register new patients, update demographic information in EMR, schedule and review appointment information with patient; remind patient when to arrive, what to bring to appointment and of cancellation/no-show policy, and answer any questions. Screen new patients for eligibility, collect financial information, take insurance or other third-party payer information, and prepare chart.</li>
<li>Medical Records Duties: Pull patient charts, perform patient correspondence and notification of test results, process medical records requests within established timeframe, follow medical records release procedure. Log requests in patient&rsquo;s chart.</li></ul>

QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>High school graduate or equivalent education.</li>
<li>Minimum 2 years&rsquo; experience in Hospital or Clinical setting.</li>
<li>National certification as a Medical Assistant.</li>
<li>BLS certification (maintaining current certification is required for continued employment).</li>
<li>Proven leadership experience, ability to work independently, detail oriented, organized, work effectively under pressure, and meet deadlines.</li>
<li>Excellent computer and organizational skills.</li>
<li>Demonstrated knowledge of office procedures, patient flow, triage and scheduling.</li>
<li>Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word and writing clearly and concisely.</li>
<li>Ability to follow verbal and written directions.</li>
<li>Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions and deliver upon expectations.</li>
<li>Understanding of basic medical terminology.</li>
<li>Ability to be cross trained in Specialties, Family Medicine and Pediatrics procedures.</li>
<li>Ability to be flexible and retain special training in call center, Medical Records, insurance coordination, medical referrals, Gap List, and chart scrubbing.</li></ul>
