Job Title:Medical AssistantGeneral Job Summary: Responsible for providing patient education, coordination, and scheduling. Assists physician and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary liaison between patients, staff and physician.Reports To: PhysicianSupervises: N/APrimary Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Assesses patient's general condition and takes vital signs and weight when necessary.2. Maintains exam rooms for necessary supplies and materials. Ensures cleanliness. Prepares list of medical supplies needed. Prepares equipment and aids provider (MD/NP/PA) during treatment, examination and testing of patients.3. Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, and maintenance of health and wellness.4. Schedules patient appointments and procedures according to established protocol.5. Greets patients and prepares them for physician examination. Screens patients for appropriate information.6. Maintains/reviews/preps patient records, charts and other pertinent information.7. Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding pre-operative and post-operative care.8. Processes prescription refill requests.9. Maintains patient confidentiality.10. Perform other related duties as directed or required.11. Sterile field set up12. Laundry13. DME fitting(braces primarily) and appropriate forms completed14. Assist with suture removalEducation: High school diploma.Experience: Minimum of two years&rsquo; experience in a medical office (preferred).Licensure Requirements: None.Knowledge: 1. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures.2. Knowledge of medical chart reporting/records.3. Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.4. Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to communicate effectively.5. Knowledge of computer programs and applications.Skills:1. Skill in appropriate assessment and assistance techniques.2. Skill in using office equipment and handling paperwork/filing adequately.3. Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.4. Skill in written and verbal communication.Abilities:1. Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.2. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.3. Ability to appropriately interact with patients, families, staff and others.4. Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.5. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and direct the work of others.6. Ability to communicate clearly.Equipment Operated: Office machinery including computers, fax, dictating machine, calculator, and photocopier. Occasionally lift and carry files up to 20 pounds.Physical/Mental Demands: Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment. Occasionally lifting and carrying files up to 50 pounds. May require working under stressful conditions.Work Environment: Normal office and exam room environment. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.As an employee of a Covered Entity, this position requires full compliance with HIPAA &amp; HITECH rules.
