Minimum of 1 year of cancer registry experience required (enrollment in an NCRA-approved ODS certification program may be substituted).</li><li>
High School Diploma or GED required.</li><li>
Must hold the ODS-C (Oncology Data Specialist Certified) credential from NCRA <b>OR</b> meet one of the NCRA ODS exam eligibility routes and successfully complete the accredited education program within one year of hire. Must obtain ODS certification within three years of hire.</li><li>
Proficiency with cancer registry software (Metriq, CNExT, or equivalent).</li><li>
Strong knowledge of cancer registry coding and staging standards, including SEER, NAACCR, ICD-10, AJCC, and CoC/ACoS STORE guidelines.</li><li>
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.</li><li>
Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, problem-solving, time management, and critical thinking skills.</li><li>
Knowledge of clinical oncology concepts, data management, and data analytics.</li></ul>

<h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>What You Will Do:</b></h2>
<p>
Responsible for abstracting all reportable malignancies and reportable benign cases in accordance with Louisiana Tumor Registry (LTR), Commission on Cancer (CoC), and national cancer registry standards. This role supports high-quality cancer care and research through the collection, analysis, and maintenance of accurate and timely cancer data while ensuring compliance with state and national reporting requirements.</p>
<ul><li>
Conduct concurrent and retrospective abstraction of cancer patient records from electronic medical records, pathology reports, radiology reports, and clinical documentation.</li><li>
Analyze medical records to determine primary site, histology, stage, treatment, and other key cancer characteristics.</li><li>
Accurately collect and enter demographic, diagnostic, treatment, and follow-up data into the cancer registry database.</li><li>
Assign coding, staging, sequencing, and treatment information according to SEER, NAACCR, ICD-10, AJCC, and CoC/STORE guidelines.</li><li>
Determine correct sequencing of diagnoses, procedures, and treatment modalities including surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, and other interventions.</li><li>
Apply critical thinking skills to accurately code primary site, histology, Extent of Disease (EOD), Summary Stage, SSDIs, and AJCC staging elements.</li><li>
Maintain complete and accurate follow-up of analytical cancer cases in accordance with CoC and state requirements.</li><li>
Collaborate with internal and external healthcare providers and facilities to obtain complete treatment information.</li><li>
Maintain and utilize current cancer registry coding manuals, databases, and regulatory resources.</li><li>
Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, and special projects to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance.</li><li>
Stay current with cancer registry standards and oncology advancements through continuing education, conferences, and professional development activities.</li><li>
Adhere to HIPAA regulations and organizational policies regarding confidentiality and protection of sensitive patient information.</li><li>
Communicate effectively with leadership regarding process improvements, workflow changes, and registry operations.</li><li>
Perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

Oncology Data Specialist - Remote

<div><p>JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION: Works under the direct supervision of a registered nurse to participate in the delivery of patient care for the improvement of quality of life for patients and families. Provides assistance to the nursing staff in preparing the patient and the operating room environment for surgery, and for providing assistance to the nursing and medical staff during surgical procedures. Job is performed appropriately for the age population served, as defined in the department&rsquo;s scope of service.</p>

3. Transports patients to and from Operating Room.</p>

<ul><li>Provides transport, positioning and turning of patients, utilizing good body mechanics and following department procedure.</li><li>Identifies self to staff on unit; retrieves patient charts/notes as needed.</li><li>Transfers patient from bed to stretcher or wheelchair, following proper Infection Control and body mechanic procedures.</li><li>Properly drapes/covers patient.</li><li>Transports patient to destination, following all BRGMC rules and regulations.</li><li>Notifies OR staff of patient&rsquo;s arrival.</li><li>Cleans stretchers, wheelchairs, etc. according to established Infection Control guidelines.</li><li>Reports repaid needs to supervisor upon discovery.</li><li>Returns all equipment to proper location at end of shift.</li></ul></div><p><br>
4. Assist in the maintenance of a clean, orderly and safe environment.</p>

<ul><li>Assists in cleaning assigned OR rooms between cases on a timely basis.</li><li>Routes all instruments and equipment to appropriate area for cleaning/processing.</li><li>Assists in the inventory and orderly storage of supplies.</li><li>Reports any unsafe conditions to RN in charge immediately upon discovery.</li><li>Ensures patient safety by maintaining OR tables and stretchers in low positions, beds locked, side rails up, and properly securing patients on stretchers when transporting.</li><li>Regularly monitors supply and restock anesthesia carts within defined time lines.</li></ul></div><p><br>
5. Performs all other duties as assigned.</p>

Certified Nursing Assistant Certification or Basic EMT Certification or Military Medic experience or Nursing Student with completion of fundamental nursing clinical in RN program desired.</p>
