PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
 
You’ll be working on the Mobile Enablement team, helping to provide tools, infrastructure and assistance to support teams building the BBC’s mobile apps for iOS and Android.
 
As a Senior Software Engineer you’ll play a key role building, maintaining and acquiring systems and services to help other BBC mobile teams build faster and align on technology and processes.
 
You will accelerate the team by mentoring colleagues, as well as engaging with teams across the organisation.

Purpose Of The Role
 
The Lead Project Manager will play a central role within the BBC’s Generative AI Team, leading a small number of medium to large-scale innovation projects. Lead a small portfolio of medium to large-scale innovation and optimisation projects within the GenAI team, ensuring they are well-scoped, well-governed and delivered to agreed outcomes.
 Oversee end-to-end delivery, from an initial prioritised problem space through discovery, validation and pilot execution, to successful handover into the business for scaling.
 Work closely with business leaders, process experts, data engineers, change specialists, and where needed legal and procurement colleagues, to coordinate delivery and resolve issues at pace.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
 
Strong experience of complex and innovation projects in large organisations from early-stage problem definition through structured experimentation to pilot delivery and effective handover into operational teams.
 The ability to balance pace, rigour and risk in the delivery of complex initiatives, ideally in areas involving new technologies or organisational change.
 Experience of creating delivery environments that support collaboration, learning and continuous improvement, particularly where innovation or experimentation is involved.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and operating a high-performance cluster of Elixir applications. ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

<li>Extensive experience writing and maintaining robust production software in a fast-changing environment with rapid release cycles.</li>
<li>Professional experience with functional programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, Haskell, F#) or modern statically typed languages (e.g., Rust, Go) developing web applications, backend services, APIs, or distributed systems.</li>
<li>Strong expertise in designing systems for observability, including effective monitoring, detailed logging, comprehensive performance testing strategies, and hands-on experience with modern observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or CloudWatch to implement and manage monitoring solutions.</li>
<li>Hands-on experience with AWS, or other cloud providers such as GCP or Azure, to architect scalable and resilient infrastructure.</li>
<li>Extensive experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines to ensure software quality and delivery efficiency.</li>
</ul>

<li>In-depth knowledge of Linux systems and performance tuning.</li>
<li>Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).</li>
