The Opportunity
 
The successful candidate will contribute to technical due diligence and market analysis engagements for multiple types of assets, including but not limited to renewable energy, conventional generation, oil & gas, transmission, water, and/or new energy projects (such as hydrogen, ammonia, carbon capture, and renewable fuels) on behalf of lenders and investors; initially serving in a supporting role to a multi-disciplinary team of Independent Engineering and Technical Due Diligence consultants. This is a key role on a team of engineers, consultants, and financial analysts, with the expectation to collect and analyze data, develop technical assessment reports, conduct site visits, develop and maintain client contacts, and develop overall project management responsibilities over time.
 
Consultants in this practice generally work on multiple concurrent projects at a given time. This position will report to the transaction solution team within Black & Veatch Infrastructure Advisory.

The Opportunity
 
This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems supporting advanced power generation facilities.
 
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Senior Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under minimal supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of electrical engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying electrical design drawings using advanced techniques in industry‑standard design tools, such as Bentley MicroStation and other Bentley tools. Advanced knowledge of project budgets and schedules is required.
 
For lighting design, experience with AGI32 is preferred to support accurate modeling and illumination calculations across APG facilities.

The ideal candidate must be proficient in AutoCAD/Revit/BIM and have an ability and interest to engage in a variety of responsibilities to ensure we safely delivery projects that meet or exceed client expectations. To do so effectively, candidates must be able to problem solve and deal with ambiguous scopes to provide clients with flexible solutions on a fast-paced schedule. Additionally, a successful candidate must possess professional written and verbal communication skills, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as this role will interact directly with our clients, which include many of the top companies within the Data Center industry.

As an Electrical Project Engineer, you may have the opportunity to:
 
Function as a Technical Specialist or Project Lead Role, providing project coordination, guidance and expertise on assigned substation projects.
 Support a variety of substation projects ranging up to 765kV in engineering detailed design and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC).
 Develop protection and control design deliverables including protective relays, panel arrangements, one line/single line diagrams, three line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, relay panel wiring and equipment wiring within high voltage substation designs.

The Opportunity
 
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Lead Engineering Technician applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges, and contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities
 Functions in a lead technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisory role
 Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline and contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions
 Utilizes digital design tools and software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) following standardized procedures to create, modifies, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
 Responsible for technical quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance, while effectively coordinating efforts across departments, teams, and stakeholders
 May supervise engineering technicians and support staff by coordinating, overseeing, and guiding conceptual and detailed design activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with project objectives
 Establishes, communicates, and enforces design and graphic standards
 Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content
 Promotes quality across projects, groups, and sections
 Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance
 Ensures that design deliverables are prepared, coordinated among disciplines and issued in accordance with BV Quality Assurance Procedures and project specific procedures
 Improves integration, coordination, and communication across disciplines
 Contributes to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes
 Leads or participates in process improvement and change management initiatives
 Applies sound engineering fundamentals and established design practices in developing deliverables
 Exercises judgment, makes work-related decisions, and guides other professionals
 Coordinates deliverable presentations, delegates production design, or other electronic applications
 Monitors production to assure consistency, budget and schedule of deliverables
 Establishes drawing control methods and maintains historical records
 Programs control systems or participates in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized expertise area
 Leads or supports development of new or updated design applications and processes
 Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development
 May supports field activities
 May manage multiple discipline areas or groups
 Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules
 Responsible for determining identification of key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns
 Leads development and communication of design standards and process improvement initiatives
 Identifies training and development needs and supports personnel development for personnel they supervise
 Champions development and improvement of project tools and software applications
 Preferred Qualifications
 Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required.
 Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
 Minimum Qualifications
 Typically a minimum of 15 years related work experience.
