P.J. Boatwright Communications Internship
 
LENGTH: Three or six months – (flexible start/end dates based on school schedule)
 LOCATION: Kenilworth, NJ
 
DESCRIPTION: NJ Golf is seeking a USGA P.J. Boatwright Communications Intern to join our team for the upcoming golf season. We are committed to providing unparalleled service to our membership and promoting the game of golf throughout the Garden State. This internship will provide a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic team that works to deliver world-class golf events, programs, and services to the golf community. The selected candidate will be exposed to many different facets of a state golf association with an emphasis on photography, video production, communications, and social media. A balance of time will be spent on-site at events and championships and in the Association’s office. This position will also include exposure to other membership activities.
 
WHAT YOU WILL DO: 
<ul>
<li>Work with the NJ Golf Manager of Communications and Manager of Digital Media & Marketing to ensure awareness of events, programs, and services</li>
<li>Interview players and create multimedia content (video, digital graphics, written recaps) at qualifiers, Member Golf Days, and other special events as necessary</li>
<li>Provide written Web content</li>
<li>Contribute news and feature stories to the Association’s magazine</li>
<li>Provide tournament and event coverage by writing stories/recaps as assigned</li>
<li>Provide photo and video coverage during tournaments and events as assigned</li>
<li>Provide tournament updates via social media (Facebook, X, Instagram)</li>
<li>Assist other staff with projects as necessary, in addition to general office work</li>
</ul>
WHAT YOU BRING: 
<ul>
<li>College degree (completed or in process)</li>
<li>Valid driver’s license</li>
<li>Strong interest in golf</li>
<li>Willingness to travel throughout the state</li>
<li>Preferred area of study or background in journalism, communications, graphic design, public relations, or related fields</li>
<li>Organization of tasks and exceptional time management skills are required</li>
<li>Requires strong work ethic, communication skills (both verbal and written), and ability to work in a team environment</li>
<li>Excellent news writing and editing skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines</li>
<li>Up-to-date computer skills and working knowledge of Canva, Social Media Platforms, Adobe Creative Cloud or other creative programs</li>
</ul>
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
<ul>
<li>Must be able to lift 40 pounds</li>
<li>Stand and walk for extended periods of time</li>
<li>Work outside in extreme weather and temperatures</li>
</ul>
WHAT NJ GOLF BRINGS: 
<ul>
<li>$2,500 per month</li>
<li>Food and accommodation expenses are paid for when traveling</li>
<li>Mileage reimbursement</li>
<li>Staff apparel</li>
</ul>
HOUSING & TRANSPORTATION: The Intern must arrange for housing in the area and provide their own automobile transportation. The Intern will be reimbursed for all related expenses when traveling on NJ Golf business and reimbursed for the use of a personal automobile while on official business.
 
ABOUT THE USGA P.J. BOATWRIGHT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: 
In 1991, the USGA established the P.J. Boatwright Jr. Internship Program. This program is designed to give experience to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in golf administration, while assisting state and regional golf associations in the promotion of amateur golf, on a short-term, entry-level basis.
 Each internship is different since the needs vary from association to association. An intern may help conduct tournaments, junior golf programs, membership services, and other general activities that promote the best interests of golf. Arrangements for multiple summer employment are possible as well.
 The common thread, which runs through the internship, is exposure to tournament preparations, tournament administration, and post-tournament business. The nature of tournament administration will test one's patience, initiative, and decision-making abilities, as well as one's ability to endure long hours and hard work. NJ Golf - 2026 P.J. Boatwright Intern - Communications

INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
 This position is an approximately 3-month long internship that focuses primarily on social media, content creation, marketing and communications. This person must demonstrate creativity, attention to detail, organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, knowledge and experience in social media, and an interest in golf.
 APPROXIMATE DATES: May 15 – August 15, 2026 (flexible start/end dates)
 LOCATION: Omaha, Nebraska
 JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
 The Intern will work both in the association office and on site at championships/events and other assignments.
 <ul>
<li>Create content and manage social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, YouTube)</li>
<li>Create graphics and other design elements for social media, website and other NebGolf communications</li>
<li>Capture photo and video content at championships/events</li>
<li>Edit and produce video packages and other features</li>
<li>Conduct on camera interviews with championship players and other key figures</li>
<li>Write preview stories and press releases for championships, along with other written content</li>
<li>Provide content and produce the NebGolf Podcast</li>
<li>Assist with media relations at championships</li>
<li>Assist in general intern duties.</li>
</ul>
QUALIFICATIONS
 <ul>
<li>Preferred area of study or background in media production, broadcasting, journalism, or communications</li>
<li>Creativity and ability to brainstorm and execute content ideas</li>
<li>Experience using multiple social media platforms</li>
<li>Experience in front of camera and conducting interviews</li>
<li>Experience using video equipment, taking photos, editing and producing video</li>
<li>Excellent writing and editing skills, and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines</li>
<li>Experience using Premiere, Photoshop and other Adobe products is preferred</li>
<li>Golf background or strong interest in golf is a plus</li>
</ul>
COMPENSATION
 <ul>
<li>This is a non-exempt paid position made possible through a grant from the USGA's P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship Program.</li>
<li>This is an hourly position paying $15.50/hour + overtime.</li>
<li>Intern will be supplied with a NebGolf uniform and will be reimbursed according to the NebGolf Reimbursement Policy for any mileage, meals, and lodging (if necessary) when conducting NebGolf business.</li>

ABOUT NEBGOLF
 The Nebraska Golf Association (NebGolf), founded in 1966, is comprised of all members of public and private clubs and/or municipal or regional golf associations which utilize an approved handicap service recognized by the USGA and provided by NebGolf. Our mission is to uphold and promote the game of golf and its values to all golfers in Nebraska. Among the duties of the Association include governance of member clubs and service as their handicapping and course rating authority, conduct of state golf championships, local USGA qualifying & other notable competitions, promotion of junior golf, presentation of worthwhile educational programs and support of allied golf organizations in Nebraska.
