<div></div><div><div>We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Staff Software Engineer to join the Stretch World Modeling team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in architecting, building, maintaining, and expanding a successful product that is already solving problems outside of the lab for customers around the world. You will be responsible for leading complex technical initiatives and mentoring junior engineers, focusing on how our robots perceive and interpret their surroundings to inform their actions.</div><div></div><div>
The Stretch World Modeling team is responsible for providing Stretch with the robust environmental understanding it needs to operate effectively within warehouse environments. This includes core system components such as object detection, state estimation, localization and sensor fusion. A key application for this role will be supporting the <div>Case Pick application</div>, where the robot autonomously navigates the warehouse to build orders, requiring accurate and reliable Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) capabilities. The team also develops and maintains key pieces of infrastructure to enable our work, including sensor drivers, debugging and visualization tools, and off-robot data processing pipelines. Additionally, we regularly test our robots, analyze their performance, and continually improve the reliability of the products we deliver to our customers.</div><div></div><div>
In this role, you will:</div><ul><li><div>
Design and implement advanced classical and machine learning-based algorithms to solve complex localization and mapping problems on Stretch for current and future applications, with a focus on warehouse environments.</div></li><li><div>
Lead the hardening of existing approaches to achieve robustness and reliability in diverse and challenging real-world warehouse settings.</div></li><li><div>
Develop efficient, testable, and maintainable C++ code, adhering to and establishing best practices for the team.</div></li><li><div>
Collaborate extensively within Stretch World Modeling and with adjacent teams, serving as a technical leader and subject matter expert in localization and mapping.</div></li><li><div>
Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering their technical growth and contributing to a high-performing team culture.</div></li></ul><div></div><div>
We are looking for:</div><ul><li><div>
BS or MS in Computer Science or a related field; PhD preferred.</div></li><li><div>
5+ years&rsquo; of experience as a Software Engineer or relevant role, with experience in localization and mapping.</div></li><li><div>
Expert-level C++ software development skills, including deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and performance optimization.</div></li><li><div>
Demonstrated expertise in classical and machine learning algorithms related to localization and mapping, ideally in warehouse or industrial settings.</div></li><li><div>
Strong understanding of various sensor modalities used for perception on robots (e.g., LiDAR, cameras, IMUs).</div></li><li><div>
Extensive experience working closely with robots, including hands-on testing, debugging, and deployment in real-world scenarios, specifically within warehousing or logistics.</div></li><li><div>
Familiarity with large-scale data processing pipelines and tools for analyzing robot performance and improving system reliability.</div></li><li><div>
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.</div></li></ul></div>
