A youth development professional plays a crucial role in shaping the future of Club members by designing and implementing programs that foster their physical, emotional, and social growth. This includes creating and leading engaging activities such as sports, arts and crafts, tutoring, and community service projects. They also provide invaluable positive guidance to youth who may be struggling with personal or academic challenges. Working with young people can be challenging at times, so patience and positivity are important for a Youth Development Professional. If you have a passion for helping young people grow and succeed, becoming a youth development professional may be the perfect career path for you.Job Requirements<ul><li>18 years or older with a high school diploma or GED, per daycare licensing requirements</li><li>Implement BGCA national programs and create local programs in at least two of the following impact areas: Academic Success, Good Character &amp; Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles in a group of up to 20 youth</li><li>Ability to pass a background screen, drug screen, and physical, including lifting 40 pounds</li><li>1-2 years of professional experience with children (does not include parenting) ideal</li></ul>Daily TasksDaily tasks include but are not limited to:<ul><li>Supervise &amp; monitor program areas to ensure Club member safety in a 1 adult to 20 youth ratio; comfortable working in large groups of youth</li><li>Provide guidance and discipline for minor behavioral issues with consistency and patience using conflict management skills; foster an inclusive and emotionally safe space for youth</li><li>Plan and implement activities and programs based on weekly lesson plans or using BGCA national program curriculum guides</li><li>Serve prepackaged meals to youth following USDA guidelines</li><li>Maintain the cleanliness of personal program space and overall Club site</li><li>Remain active, engaged and energetic for 6+ hours</li><li>Follow licensing, grant, and funding guidelines from organizations providing oversight to BGCDV, including but not limited to the TN Department of Education, Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America and the USDA</li></ul>Occasional Job Tasks<ul><li>Supervise youth on buses, field trips or at other special events</li><li>Work at organizational fundraising events</li><li>Travel to other Club locations as a substitute if other staff are out; mileage reimbursed</li><li>Ability to complete at least 12 hours of paid training related to youth development</li><li>Ability to be CPR/First Aide certified within 6 months of employment</li><li>Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office</li></ul>Job Skills:<ul><li>Strong Communication &amp; Interpersonal Skills: Building positive relationships with Club members is critical to their success, so having strong interpersonal skills is a must. A Youth Development Professional must be able to communicate effectively with young people, parents, and other staff members.</li><li>Organizational &amp; Planning Skills: Planning and coordinating activities and programs requires strong organizational skills. Developing engaging programs and activities for Club members requires creativity and innovation.
