The Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska is searching for enthusiastic youth development professionals looking to make a difference in the world as a youth mentor. Following a temporary pause to services while we restructured, we are now excited to relaunch our programs in the Anchorage area. As Youth Mentor Staff you will be responsible for helping our Club unlock the potential of every young person we serve. You will work directly with school-aged kids as their mentor and will ensure every child has safe, first-class after-school program experience. This is done by acting as a positive, engaging adult role model, teacher, coach, and mentor. Youth Mentors must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe and nurturing environment for the students they teach, inspire, encourage, and impact. Professionals work directly with an assigned group of 20-25 students Monday through Friday during after school hours. This is a part-time, non-exempt position. The Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska deliver high-impact programming year-round including during school breaks and summer vacation. Programs include enrichment, STEM, fitness, sports, character building, tutoring, and much more!OUR MISSION: To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.OUR VISION: To provide a world-class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters our doors with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership &amp; Operations<ul><li>Serve as a tutor/mentor in an After-School Enrichment Program providing homework assistance, academic enrichment and fitness using curriculum developed by Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of Southcentral Alaska</li><li>Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program through reliability, punctuality, appropriate dress, speech, and attitude.</li><li>Demonstrate program leadership skills through group expectations management and effective practices of the Club&rsquo;s Guiding Principles: respect each other, respect the Club, try your best and have fun.</li><li>Approach behavior as communication by practicing positive reinforcement and implementing strategies that help members identify and correct challenging behaviors.</li><li>Plan, organize, and prioritize programmatic deliverables including safety practices, curriculum, and individualized member engagement.</li><li>Communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers in a way that enhances safety, supports our culture, fosters transparency, and invites opportunities for learning and growth.</li><li>Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and community partners by utilizing objective language, engaging parents in formulating solutions, and activating appropriate communication channels.</li><li>Develop program delivery skills in a way that fosters engagement and learning while building upon the mentor-mentee relationship.</li><li>Participate in staff development and training activities.</li><li>Support with collection of data and program deliverables.</li><li>Maintain a safe, clean, attractive club environment, including highlighting youth projects and work, recognition activities, seasonal activities, and projects, etc.</li></ul>SKILLS &amp; KNOWLEDGE REQUIREDNote: If you meet most qualifications, have diverse experiences, and a passion for serving Alaska&rsquo;s youth, you&rsquo;re welcome to apply.<ul><li>Associate&rsquo;s degree (A.A.) from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred but not required.</li><li>A passion for mentoring youth is required.</li><li>Basic computer skills in Microsoft Suite required.</li><li>Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.</li><li>Ability to achieve and maintain first aid and CPR certification.</li><li>Must pass a criminal records background check.</li></ul>PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, stand, see, utilize fine and gross motor manipulation. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
