<div>The Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law is a nonpartisan law and policy institute that seeks to improve the systems of democracy and justice in the United States. We are seeking interns to provide research, administrative, and clerical support to staff in our New York office in our Democracy program.
Note: This internship is in-person at our Washington D.C. office.
Responsibilities: 
All interns will assist with general research, administrative, and clerical work for the Brennan Center, including filing, answering phones, coordinating meetings, drafting routine correspondence and covering the reception desk. There will be opportunities to attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations on program work. 
 
In addition to administrative duties, specific responsibilities can include: providing support for litigation; assisting in the research for, and rollout of, reports; and aiding the program&rsquo;s advocacy efforts in Voting, Elections and Government, Judiciary, Federal Reform, Redistricting, and other related projects. 
 
Qualifications: 
The ideal candidates are independent self-starters; detail-oriented; energetic; punctual; and highly organized. Interns must also have excellent, research, writing, and analytical skills, as well as a passion for our issues. Experience with Microsoft Office is a must. Experience working with data is very helpful. Applicants must be open to evolving responsibilities.

Summer 2025 Democracy Undergraduate Internship

The Brennan Center&rsquo;s Liberty and National Security (LNS) Program fights to preserve constitutional values in the post-9/11 world. The LNS Program focuses on reining in the abuse of emergency powers by the executive branch and preventing excessive government secrecy. We work to protect fundamental freedoms while keeping Americans safe. That means protecting citizens&rsquo; privacy, updating privacy laws to account for new technologies, working to ensure that counterterrorism authorities are narrowly targeted to the terrorist threat, and securing adequate oversight and accountability mechanisms. 
Note: This internship is in-person at our Washington D.C. office. 
We seek law students to work alongside staff in our Washington DC office on the Brennan Center&rsquo;s policy advocacy, research, and litigation initiatives. Activities may include legal and policy analysis; legislative drafting at federal, state, and local levels; administrative and legislative advocacy; public education and scholarship; and litigation in trial and appellate courts. The Brennan Center&rsquo;s interns are integral to all aspects of our work, including programmatic and strategic planning. We strive to offer a fun and intellectually challenging legal intern experience that supports and supplements the vital advocacy offered by the Brennan Center. 
 
Interns may assist with a variety of activities, including conducting legal research and writing for amicus briefs, policy reports, and other advocacy documents; drafting communications to legislators; assisting with writing comments to federal agencies; attending coalition meetings; drafting posts for the Brennan Center blog; and more. 
 
Qualifications:

Summer 2026 Liberty and National Security Legal Internship

Responsibilities: 
All interns will assist with general research and administrative work for the Brennan Center, including daily digital project production support. Additionally, there will be opportunities to attend and observe substantive meetings, events, and conversations on program work. 
 
In addition to administrative duties, specific responsibilities for the Digital team include: 
Participate in marketing, communications, and digital team meetings and strategy discussions; support the email marketing team to build emails and conduct quality assurance for newsletter sends; conduct research on social media, digital campaign, and email marketing trends and best practices; gather data and create reports on effectiveness of ongoing online marketing campaigns and email program; work with staff on campaign marketing, promotion plans, and email production and testing; work with staff to create and post content on the website and social media; assist with digital advertising. 
 
Qualifications:
