Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Minimum of a Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree from an accredited educational institution.</li>
<li>Valid Alabama Teaching Certificate in the area of instructional responsibility.</li>
<li>Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.</li>
<li>Valid Alabama Driver's License</li>
<li>Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.</li>
</ul>
Duties/Responsibilities:
<ul>
<li>Assesses student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and student outcome.</li>
<li>Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.</li>
<li>Plans class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate for the class and meet the individual needs, interests and ability levels of all students.</li>
<li>Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.</li>
<li>Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.</li>
<li>Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities as required or assigned.</li>
<li>Communicates to students and parents (either in writing or verbally) the instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.</li>
<li>Ensures confidentiality of all students' records, grades, performance and all other related matters.</li>
<li>Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups.</li>
<li>Establishes and maintains a professional level of rapport with other teachers, team leaders, department heads, district-level coordinators and/or program directors, and instructional support and service employees of the school district.</li>
<li>Demonstrates a positive and technically competent set of parent/community relations' skills including oral communication, written communications, and listening skills in group and one-on-one situations as necessary.</li>
<li>Fulfills professional responsibilities beyond those exhibited in the classroom, such as school and district program improvement efforts, participation in community and parent groups, abides by and promotes high ethical standards, etc.</li>
<li>Models appropriate personal characteristics and work habits that are consistent with personal development goals established for students.</li>
<li>Establishes and maintains proper and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.</li>
<li>Abides by the Alabama Educator Code of Ethics.</li>
<li>Be familiar with and follow Calhoun County Board of Education Policies.</li>
<li>Coach or sponsor athletics/extra-curricular activities.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Calhoun County Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by the Calhoun County School System.

Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
