Position Overview</div><div>
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS</div><ul><li>
Provides for safety aspects of patient care (assists with patient restraints, uses correct transfer techniques, follows falls precautions, responds appropriately to emergency situations).</li><li>
Provides personal care (bathing, mouth care, evening care, incontinence care to patients under the direction of the RN.</li><li>
Applies appropriately basic dressings, slings, splints, antiembolism and sequential pressure stockings under the direction of the RN.</li><li>
Collects specimens such as stool, urine and sputum on a timely basis.</li><li>
Empties and cleans ostomy and other device bags efficiently. Records accurate intake and output per unit standards.</li><li>
Provides for nutrition of patients. Feeds, monitors tube feedings, delivers nourishment, counts calories timely an accurately.</li><li>
Makes pertinent observations about patients. Documents accurate and timely observations in patient records and reports findings to RN.</li><li>
Assists with post mortem care.</li><li>
Assists with CPR under the direction/supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician.</li><li>
Performs Phlebotomy accurately and stocks Phlebotomy and IV trays for unit. Performs accurate glucometer testing. Performs EKG's as determined by unit and following competency attainment. Performs accurate vital signs and pulse oximetry.</li><li>
Stocks supplies as required by designated unit. Maintains a well cleaned, organized environment. Performs other duties as assigned: willingness to adapt to changing department needs. Maintains patient and medication refrigerator logs.</li><li>
Checks and signs name to Unit Code Cart/Carts for operational performance each shift. Notifies clinical equipment and charge nurse of any malfunctioning defibrillator in a timely manner.</li></ul><div></div><div>
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:</div><ul><li>
Education: High school diploma or equivalency.</li><li>
Experience: One year prior experience as an EMT, military medic, PCA in an acute care or equivalent skill in long-term care setting, completion of a medical assistant program, or successful completion of two clinical semesters of an accredited nursing school.</li><li>
Other Credentials: AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period</li><li>
Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.</li><li>
Special Training: Certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred. In lieu of CNA certification, successful completion of the Capital Health UAP Training program within 90 days of employment.</li><li>
