 Our Manassas, Virginia site is a part of the Consumer Health division and provides expanded capabilities in soft chews and lozenges. With extensive development and manufacturing expertise and a wide range of flavors, ingredients, and colors available, we can work with complex formulations to help create engaging new products consumers will love.
 
 
 The
 
 R&amp;D Scientist
 
 will initiate, coordinate, and implement new product initiatives on new and existing products. This position will work with procurement, quality assurance, production, marketing, as well as suppliers and customers to effectively develop products. The
 
 R&amp;D Scientist
 
 will create product formulation, scale-up, labelling, select raw materials, and more. This position is responsible all documentation from ideation to product launch and product maintenance.
 
 
 
 The Role
 
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Organize daily activities based on business priorities provided by R&amp;D Director.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain accurate records of R&amp;D materials, equipment and samples stored in all R&amp;D areas according to established practices and procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain accurate laboratory and project work documentation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Maintain clean and organized laboratory work environment including supplies inventory and maintenance, and routine cleaning
 </li>
 <li>
 Prepare samples for shipment to customers.
 </li>
 <li>
 Formulate and create bench top samples for presentation to inside and outside customers, while maintaining awareness of current plant process capabilities.
 </li>
 <li>
 Engage in the troubleshooting and recommendation/ modifications to existing product formula&rsquo;s and/or processes to improve productivity, quality, and/or product cost.
 </li>
 <li>
 Support and participate in plant line trials and production start-ups
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to represent The Company when interacting with customers
 </li>
 <li>
 Support Sales and Marketing channels with customer presentations. This requires formal &ldquo;customer facing&rdquo; in a professional manner with a sound working knowledge of company products, processes, and capabilities.
 </li>

 </ul>
 
 The Candidate
 
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 B.S. in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field
 </li>
 <li>
 3+ years relevant experience in food preparation/food industry (preferably in the confectionary industry) required
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to work with cross functional departments within the organization
 </li>
 <li>
 Problem solving, verbal, communication, and listening skills, excellent analytical and decision-making abilities; good presentation skills
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office Programs
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
 </li>
 <li>
 The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee is required to sit, climb or balance and taste or smell.
