The Senior Direct Support Professional supports the mission of Catholic Charities of Long Island by assisting the Residence Manager in ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and implementation of their Individual Service Plans (ISP). 


Responsibilities: 
<ul>
<li>Serving as staff mentor for aspects of new staff orientation 
</li>
<li>Monitoring safety &amp; well-being of residents, ensuring residents are always treated with dignity. Complying with OSHA regulations and universal precautions. 
</li>
<li>Planning and providing social &amp; recreational activities for residents 
</li>
<li>Maintaining and applying current &amp; complete knowledge of emergency procedures in event of a crisis, e.g., fire safety 
</li>
<li>Preparing all required documentation prior to end of shift, reporting all issues/concerns to Residence Manager 
</li>
<li>Administering and/or supervising residents' intake of medication as prescribed in accordance with OPWDD-approved Medications Administration Procedure (AMAP)</li>
<li>Providing individual resident instruction and/or assistance with daily living skills and rehabilitation or social skills in accordance with ISP. Encourages and rewards achievement of residents' goals.</li>
<li>Transporting and/or accompanying residents to various activities, appointments, events, or other destinations as needed in the house van.
</li><li>Handling telephone calls and inquiries and providing necessary follow-up as directed by Residence Manager.</li>
<li>Performing all essential functions of the Direct Support Professional role, as directed or needed</li></ul> 


Qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>High School diploma/GED 
</li>
<li>Previous experience working with developmentally disabled adults is strongly preferred. 
</li>
<li>Clean, valid NYS Driver&rsquo;s License 
</li>
<li>Ability to transfer and assist in 2-person lift of persons weighing as much as 250 lbs. 
</li>
<li>Ability to transfer persons weighing as much as 250 pounds in and out of bd to a wheelchair, from a wheelchair to toilet or mat, or from a mat to a wheelchair.
</li><li>Ability to propel consumer in wheelchair safely.</li>
<li>Capable of stooping and crouching to lift.</li>
<li>Ability to protect self, in a non-aggressive manner, during physical or emotional outburst of a resident.</li>
<li>Ability to maintain current certifications, up-to-date knowledge of regulatory compliance, agency policies, protocols &amp; evolving operational practices, and attendance at all required in-service trainings 
</li>
<li>A desire to provide/facilitate &ldquo;person-centered&rdquo; care to all residents; 
</li>
<li>Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively &amp; effectively with individuals, Residential Managers, fellow team members, families and community members.</li> 
</ul>
 
Schedule: 40 hours per week, 2:00p - 10:00p, Sun-Thurs. 


Rate of pay: $22.00/hr. (plus weekend differential) 


This rate of pay serves as a good faith estimate. Actual pay is based on a number of factors which may include a candidate&rsquo;s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and work location. The salary range or rate listed does not include other forms of compensation, such as the value of benefits, which may be applicable to this position.</div>
