This 28-bed unit cares for patients experiencing a wide range of neurological and spinal conditions, including stroke, brain injury, TIA, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal.  Neuroscience Unit 4 East currently has an exciting opportunity for a
 
 Patient Care Technician
 
 . In this role, the Patient Care Technician provides essential technical support to licensed professionals by assisting with the delivery of high-quality, compassionate patient care. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with established standards, The Joint Commission, and CentraState Healthcare System policies and procedures. Working within a multidisciplinary, patient-focused care model, the Patient Care Technician plays a key role in supporting both clinical operations and the overall patient experience in a fast-paced, specialized environment.
 
 
 
 Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Provides considerate respectful care focused upon the patient's individual need.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately checks exterior of code cart each shift.
 </li>
 <li>
 Affirms the patient's right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
 </li>
 <li>
 Collects and labels specimens without error.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately performs bedside glucose monitoring, and calibration of Accucheck and enters data.
 </li>
 <li>
 Correctly performs all scheduled and assigned tasks while continually observing patient needs.
 </li>
 <li>
 Retrieves blood from the Blood Bank.
 </li>
 <li>
 Supports operations by demonstrating ability and willingness to float between units as a PCT and provides 1:1 patient observation when deemed necessary.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs post mortem care.
 </li>
 <li>
 Follows CentraState policy regarding restraint application, documentation and observation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Always answers patient call lights in a timely manner.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides basic nursing care, including partial and/or complete direct personal hygienic care to patients (i.e.: bathing, feeding, diversional activity) and assists patients with activities of daily living.
 </li>
 <li>
 Properly performs electrocardiograms.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides partial and/or complete direct personal hygienic care to patients.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately performs simple wound care and ostomy care.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately collects and documents patient data (TPR, I&amp;O, specimen collection, height and weight) utilizing learned technical skills under the direction of the RN. Accurately documents patient data and comfort rounds in Wellsoft system.
 </li>
 <li>
 Correctly makes occupied and unoccupied beds.
 </li>
 <li>
 Notifies nurse immediately for patient's complaints of pain/discomfort and any observed change in condition. Provides appropriate interventions for pain as directed by nurse and reports outcomes.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists with the elimination needs of the patient while providing privacy and dignity.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs rounding as per guidelines.
 </li>
 <li>
 Correctly feeds patients.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs tasks to maintain patient mobility.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately maintains feeding tubes.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately performs incentive spirometry and pulse oximetry.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately obtains and documents temperatures, pulses, respirations and blood pressure.
 </li>
 <li>
 Accurately measures and documents intake and output.
 </li>
 <li>
 Reports patient intake and output to nurse.
 </li>
 <li>
 Supports cost containment through efficient use of equipment, supplies and other pertinent resources.
 
 
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Qualifications
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 High school diploma or equivalent required.
 </li>
 <li>
 Work Experience:
 </li>
 <ul>
 <li>
 One year nursing assistant healthcare experience required OR
 </li>
 <li>
 Successful completion of an approved CNA or PCT training course required OR
 </li>
 <li>
 Currently enrolled in a degreed nursing program AND completed an introductory nursing course such as Nursing 101 or equivalent OR completed a semester of a school sponsored clinical rotation in an acute setting.
 </li>
 </ul>
 <li>
 CPR certification required.
 </li>
 <li>
 Glucose certifications is provided by CentraState during orientation.
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong professional, organizational, and interpersonal skills to effectively relate with all members of the healthcare team.

 Compensation Range: $19.50 - $31.20 per hour

Patient Care Technician (Neuro Sciences Unit 4E)

<div>Overview:

The Clinical Laboratory Assistant performs a full range of technical activities in support of and under the general supervision of a Laboratory Technician, Technologist or Laboratory Supervisor.</div>
Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Performs instrument set-up.</li><li>
Obtains and/or receives laboratory specimen; prepare specimens for testing and analysis</li><li>
Assists with and/or performs standardized testing procedures using both manual and automated methods under general supervision.</li><li>
Recognizes common technical problems and is able to correct them under supervision.</li><li>
Maintains clean and organized work area.</li><li>
Enters and retrieves patients' data accurately, utilizing the laboratory computer system.</li><li>
Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform instrument maintenance</li><li>
Becomes familiar with troubleshooting techniques for the major instruments.</li><li>
Performs Quality Assurance activities related to the laboratory and test performance.</li><li>
Records temperatures as appropriate</li><li>
Maintains laboratory records in accordance with established procedures and protocols.</li><li>
Maintains reagents inventory and laboratory supply inventory.</li><li>
Participates in the internal/external quality assurance, performance improvement activities and programs.</li></ul>
Qualifications:
<ul><li>HS Diploma or equivalent</li><li>
Specific Certification related to position or Associates Degree/Technical Degree in related field</li><li>
3-5 years of prior experience</li><li>
All licenses and certifications needed to fulfill the duties required</li><li>
Performs moderately complex clinical activities and/or leads patient care activities</li><li>
Makes decisions regarding own work methods, frequently in ambiguous situations</li><li>
Work is guided by previous experience, quality and service standards, and direction from clinician</li><li>
Regularly models/mentors and trains junior staff on technical skills</li><li>
Serves as technical specialist on daily tasks and cases</li><li>
Medical terminology experience preferred</li><li>
Experience performing healthcare patient registration preferred
</li><li>A strong customer service focus with the ability to develop effective working relationships, required</li><li>
Current knowledge of clinical practices and related information systems and computer applications, required</li><li>
Maintains current knowledge of trends and advances in clinical practice and healthcare informatics, as well as new developments and innovations in hardware and software technology</li><li>
Demonstrated initiative, problem identification, resolution and analytical skills are essential, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills</li></ul>
