<div>The Sol Blatt Jr. Law Library at the Charleston School of Law is seeking a ReferenceInstruction Librarian to join our collaborative and service-oriented team. This is an entry-level position, ideal for recent graduates or those in their final semester of a library degree program who are eager to begin a career as an academic law librarian with a strong instructional component to the role.
Position Summary
The ReferenceInstruction Librarian will provide in-library reference services and support legal and interdisciplinary research for students, faculty, and patrons. The role includes developing research guides and tutorials, conducting instructional sessions in law school courses, and leading in-library workshops. The librarian will also contribute to collection development and support faculty scholarship through advanced research consultations.
Key Responsibilities<ul><li>
Deliver reference and research assistance to faculty, students, alumni, and the legal community.</li><li>
Create instructional materials and lead formal and informal research instruction sessions.</li><li>
Collaborate on interdepartmental instructional initiatives and faculty support.</li><li>
Participate in collection development and prepare legal research guides and bibliographies.</li><li>
Represent the law school at professional meetings and conferences.</li><li>
Assist with exam proctoring and occasional evening hours.</li><li>
Opportunity to teach as an adjunct professor (additional compensation provided).</li></ul>
Qualifications<ul><li>
Master's degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited institution (or equivalent).
</li><li>Applicants in the final semester of their program may be considered if they can work in person.</li><li>
Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited institution (or equivalent).</li><li>
Strong legal research skills and familiarity with electronic and print resources.</li><li>
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.</li><li>
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other research technologies.</li><li>
Commitment to service and teamwork.</li></ul>

Reference & Instruction Librarian (Entry Level)

<div>Charleston School of Law invites applications for the position of Digital InitiativesInstruction Librarian. This person coordinates digital acquisition recommendations, the management of e-resources, and supports access to and training on the Library owned, licensed, and subscribed online resources to meet the educational and research needs of students, faculty, and staff. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Information Resources, the Digital CollectionsInitiatives, Instructional Librarian has the primary responsibility for leading the development and activities of the Charleston School of Law's digital-based collections and programs.
Responsibilities and Duties Include:<ul><li>
ABA accredited J.D. or ALA accredited M.L.S./M.I.L.S. or equivalent degrees required.
</li><li>This position serves as the law library's first point of contact on copyright, fair use, and open access issues.</li><li>
Leads digital initiatives development by providing a full range of collection management, QA and sustainability services, and best practices.</li><li>
Continuously analyzes and optimizes e-resource discovery, access, and training.</li><li>
Contributes to and supports the library's digital and online presence through the investigation, implementation, and enhancement of tools that assist with research, creativity, scholarship, and engagement.</li><li>
Gather statistics and develop reports to determine the usage of resources and support digital collections decision-making by the Associate Dean for Information Resources.</li><li>
Provide troubleshooting to ensure access by the law library user community to owned and subscribed content.</li><li>
Provides exceptional service in responding to research, reference, and training inquiries of our users.</li><li>
Preference for an individual with some prior experience in preparing and delivering instruction or training in any setting but not a requirement.</li><li>
Work with vendors to organize and launch online resource trials for library user groups.</li><li>
Promote e-resources by creating and maintaining research guides, providing training, and arranging vendor/publisher presentations for the library team.
</li><li>Serve on library and campus committees as appropriate for the position.</li><li>
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Information Resources, this position will work as part of the small library team in a fast-paced, very collaborative environment.
</li><li>Advises users on library policy issues raised by digital resources and related matters.</li></ul>
