Job Description
Checkout.com is seeking a Payroll Specialist to take ownership of our payroll operations in Mauritius and support with a few other global regions. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the end-to-end payroll processing for these key regions. We're looking for someone with outstanding attention to detail who thrives in a challenging, fast-paced, and high-growth environment.
You will work closely with the Finance team, supporting all duties associated with accurate and timely payroll processing and assisting with payroll-related financial close tasks. This role also offers exposure to a global transformation project to consolidate our payroll providers, giving you a chance to shape a new, more efficient system at a global scale.
How you&rsquo;ll make an impact<ul><li>
Manage end-to-end payroll: Take full ownership of monthly payroll processing for employees in Mauritius and support the global team with few other countries. This includes collating data, preparing payroll files, submitting reports to our external payroll providers by specific deadlines, managing payroll accounts for funding and salary disbursements.</li><li>
Ensure accuracy: Review and verify payroll changes and outputs with providers to ensure 100% accuracy before final processing.</li><li>
Collaborate with stakeholders: Work closely with the People Team, Finance, and other departments to ensure all payroll data is accurate, timely, and complete.</li><li>
Maintain payroll data: Act as the primary owner for payroll-related data in the HRIS and payroll systems (Workday and Cloudpay experience is a plus), ensuring all employee information is kept up to date with complete accuracy.</li><li>
Support key payroll cycles: Assist with year-end tasks, annual salary reviews, and the processing of bonuses and commissions.</li><li>
Reconcile and report: Gather monthly payroll reports from providers, prepare employee data reports from the HRIS system, and provide them to the Finance department for financial close.</li><li>
Provide employee support: Manage the Payroll Helpdesk email inbox, answering employee queries related to pay, tax, and pensions in a timely and professional manner.</li><li>
Assist with financial tasks and audits: Help ensure that General Ledger postings accurately reflect monthly payroll and assist with balance sheet reconciliation queries. Provide audit support to Finance for payroll-related audit queries.</li><li>
Drive process improvements: Actively identify and implement improvements to payroll processes and systems with a clear focus on automation and standardization.</li><li>
Stay current: Proactively research and stay up-to-date with changes in payroll legislation, international accounting standards, and financial regulations to ensure compliance.</li><li>
Support special projects: Assist with the implementation of our new global payroll provider, payroll setup in new expansion regions, and other ad-hoc projects related to pay and benefits.</li></ul>
What we&rsquo;re looking for<ul><li>
Experience: You have at least 5 years of hands-on payroll experience, with a proven track record of managing end-to-end Mauritius payroll processes, and have exposure to international payroll.</li><li>
Detail-oriented: Your attention to detail is second to none, and you pride yourself on producing highly accurate work.</li><li>
Problem-solver: You are proactive, organized, and have a strong sense of initiative. You enjoy working at pace and have a drive to improve processes and systems.</li><li>

 The role
 
 
 
 
 This hands-on role in the Financial Control team reports to the Director of Financial Control (MENA) and is critical for maintaining accurate financial control and regulatory compliance across all MENA entities. A key function of the role is to interface with external auditors for both local and Group audits, managing queries and ensuring timely preparation and submission of audit documentation. The senior analyst will also be the primary resource for producing, validating, and analyzing regional regulatory returns, and must collaborate closely with internal teams (e.g., Compliance, Treasury, Group Regulatory Reporting) to ensure all obligations are met in a controlled and timely manner.
 
 
 If successful, you will be joining at an exciting time as we invest in strengthening our accounting operations and improving the quality and robustness of our financial reporting, with a particular focus on the standardisation and automation of reconciliation and robust internal controls.
 
 
 
 What You Will Be Doing

 Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with IFRS.

 Be responsible for the preparation, production, and review of regulatory returns in the region, in line with relevant reporting standards and local regulatory requirements

 Validate and reconcile data used in regulatory reports, ensuring completeness, consistency, and accuracy, resolving data quality issues when they arise
 </li>
 <li>
 Work with data teams and Group Regulatory Reporting to ensure data definitions and mapping are consistent with regulatory interpretations
 </li>
 <li>
 Help maintain and improve financial controls, ensuring the integrity of financial data.
 </li>
 <li>
 Work closely with the financial control manager to develop financial reports and provide insight into business performance.
 </li>
 <li>
 Participate in the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing processes, including preparation of necessary documentation.

 <li>
 Be the key resource for internal and external audit activities of MENA entities, ensuring that all relevant documentation and reports are accurate and prepared on a timely basis and provided to external auditors.

 Draft the financial statements and relevant supporting workings, including notes to the financial statements, for all MENA entities, and work with the financial control manager to finalise the financial statements for director and external audit review

 Contribute to the global projects for example implementation of new financial systems, tools, and processes for better efficiency and accuracy.

 Qualifications

 Demonstrated experience of working in a high-volume, complex and dynamic environment, juggling multiple deliverables whilst maintaining accuracy and quality of output.

 Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Economics, Accounting or equivalent preferred
 </li>

 Qualified accountant or working towards an accounting qualification.
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience in a finance or accounting role with significant exposure to audit, preferably within an international or multinational company.

 <li>
 Experience working with financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g.Workday, Netsuite or similar) is an advantage.

 Good understanding of IFRS.

Working as part of our Cost of Sales Operations function, you'll support the scheme and interchange fees reconciliation of Card Schemes and other acquiring channels. Evolving in a high-pace and dynamic environment, meticulous attention to detail will be the key.

How you&rsquo;ll make an impact:<ul><li>
Be Checkout.com&rsquo;s subject matter expert for both internal and external stakeholders on Card Payment Interchange fees</li><li>
You should be well conversant with interchange fee programs across all regions checkout operates (MENA, APAC, US, EU)</li><li>
Assist on aspects of interchange and scheme fees mapping including business case, impact analysis and development for new fees and existing fees updates</li><li>
Translate upcoming interchange fees updates into business requirements and implement these in Checkout.com pricing engine accurately and within deadline</li><li>
Investigate, action and report on any anomalies identified during the reconciliation process</li><li>
Participate in creation and maintenance of dashboards on interchange fees performance and key metrics for management</li><li>
Provide optimisation recommendations to management based on interchange fees being charged</li><li>
Review and promptly attend to queries from internal / external stakeholders with regards to interchange and scheme fees</li><li>
Participate in interchange fee implementation of new regions Checkout is operating by defining the key requirements and system changes required to onboard the region</li><li>
Review and promptly attend to requests through Checkout.com ticketing system</li><li>
Participate in the development, optimisation &amp; documentation of business processes</li><li>
Implement scheme mandates related to interchange fee on time by ensuring the proper documentation, testing are done within the timeframe.</li><li>
Consistently improve existing reconciliation processes to scale, introducing new controls and minimising need for manual effort in routine tasks</li><li>
Participate actively in project work and product initiatives</li><li>
Perform analyses to identify scheme fees optimisation opportunities for Checkout.com</li><li>
Work closely with the Pricing function to review fees and provide recommendations</li><li>

We are seeking a detail-oriented Third-Party Risk Associate/Senior Associate with at least 3+ years of relevant experience to join our Global TPRM assessment team in Mauritius. This role is focused on the timely execution of core assessment tasks, including data gathering, initial risk scoring, and tracking remediation efforts. The Associate will be essential in supporting the team's capacity to identify, document, and escalate risks across Checkout's vendor base.<h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>
Core Risk Assessment Execution: Execute and support the initial and ongoing risk assessment process for third-party vendors, primarily focusing on data validation, completeness checks, and accurate documentation within the TPRM system.</li><li>
Domain Knowledge Application: Apply a foundational understanding of control risks in key domains, including Information Security, Data Privacy, and Business Continuity Management (BCM), to review and triage vendor-provided documentation.</li><li>
Screening and Triage: Utilize specialized tools to perform routine sanctions, PEPs, and adverse media screening on vendors, escalating any potential matches immediately to a Senior Associate or Manager.</li><li>
Report Drafting Support: Support Senior Associates in reviewing documentation, extracting key control gaps, and drafting sections of the detailed assessment reports.</li><li>
Documentation and Escalation: Identify and accurately document control deficiencies and potential risks, ensuring timely escalation of emerging issues to Senior Associates or the Team Lead.</li><li>
Remediation Tracking: Monitor third-party remediation efforts and track the status of identified risks, following up proactively with suppliers and internal Business Owners to ensure closure deadlines are met.</li><li>
Tool Proficiency: Utilize and maintain proficiency with the TPRM assessment platforms, GRC tools, and sanctions screening tools, ensuring high data accuracy in the system.</li><li>
Team Collaboration: Actively collaborate with suppliers and internal Business Owners, ensuring clear communication of assessment findings and necessary actions.</li><li>
Regulatory Awareness: Stay current on relevant global regulations (EBA Outsourcing Guidelines, DORA, FCA, etc.) and industry best practices to support compliant assessments.</li><li>
Program Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of the TPRM program by suggesting efficiencies in daily assessment workflows.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Qualifications</h2><ul><li>
Experience: 3+ years of focused experience in risk management, audit, compliance, or other relevant fields, preferably within a regulated financial services environment.</li><li>
Foundational Reporting: Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise documents (e.g., initial findings summaries, status reports) or experience supporting the creation of formal risk assessment/audit reports.</li><li>
Tool Experience: Hands-on experience using GRC tools, third-party risk assessment platforms, or other similar compliance management software.</li><li>
Domain Knowledge: Foundational understanding of third-party risk management principles and frameworks.</li><li>
Core Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and high attention to detail.</li><li>
Working Environment: Proven ability to work independently on assigned tasks and collaborate effectively as part of a team. Flexibility to align working hours to support the UK time zone.</li></ul>
