Performs skilled technical and mechanical work and is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of complex heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration, equipment; employee is responsible for ensuring all work is performed in compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements; work is performed with a considerable amount of independence and may lead and/or instruct unskilled or semiskilled assistants, but confers with supervisor when necessary; work is periodically inspected during progress or upon completion for workmanship and general compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.</p></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Essential Functions</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs HVAC/Refrigeration Systems, i.e., motors, air compressors, control valves, exhaust fans, air handler units, condenser units, electronic and pneumatic controls, water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers, centrifugal chillers, and cooling towers.</li><li>
Constructs, maintains, and installs sheet metal and fiberglass duct work.</li><li>
Understands how to work with and program frequency drives.</li><li>
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs energy management wiring and equipment.</li><li>
Checks and calibrates electronic, pneumatic, and electric temperature/humidity control systems.</li><li>
Performs preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.</li><li>
May provide 24-hour emergency on-call support.</li><li>
Test&rsquo;s refrigeration and air conditioning equipment for refrigerant leaks; Cleans and replaces filters.</li><li>
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs window units, DX split systems and package units.</li></ul>

Knowledge in the care and use of hand tools, power tools and equipment.</li><li>

Ability to accurately estimate time, material quantities, and cost.</li><li>
Ability to work from sketches, schematics, and blueprints.</li><li>
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.</li><li>
Ability to work with building automation systems.</li><li>
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.</li><li>
Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.</li><li>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum and Preferred Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:</b></p><br>
<ul><li>
Requires high school degree or GED equivalent; AND</li><li>
Completion of a two (2) year technical/vocational A/C and Refrigeration program with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in industrial/commercial A/C and Refrigeration, OR</li><li>
Possession of a Florida County issued Mechanical/HVAC Journeyman Certificate of Competency, OR</li><li>
Completion of a four (4) year registered apprenticeship program in A/C and Refrigeration with a minimum of two (2) years&rsquo; experience in industrial/commercial A/C and Refrigeration.</li><li>
Possession of Universal EPA Certification in Transition and Recovery of Refrigerants is required.</li><li>
Ability to work a variable five (5) day schedule within a seven (7) day week is required.</li><li>
CA or RA &ndash; A class A, B, C &quot;air-conditioning contractor&quot; license, OR</li><li>
CM or RM - A &quot;mechanical contractor&quot; license is preferred.</li></ul><br>
<b>
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:</b><br>
<ul><li>
Possession of a valid State of Florida Driver&rsquo;s license.</li><li>
May be required to obtain a Class A, B or C Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License (CDL) after employment depending on the type of motor equipment used.</li><li>
Pursuant to the SEIU collective bargaining agreement, employees must have abstained from the use of cigarettes, cigars, and other tobacco products and electronic cigarettes for at least one year prior to their date of hire, and shall abstain from the use of tobacco products and electronic cigarettes at all times during the period of their employment with the City while both on and off duty</li></ul>
