JOB TITLE: Building Inspector
 DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Building Inspection
 REPORTS TO: Chief Building Inspector
 SUMMARY: Responsible for performing a wide variety of inspections to support the City’s one-stop shop philosophy in building and zoning. Inspections include building inspections, construction inspections and inspections related to the City’s zoning ordinances. Work is performed with limited supervision.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
<ul>
<li>Performs field inspections of public and private construction and improvements for violations and/or compliance of plans, standards, specifications, regulations, permits, zoning and/or City code ordinances; inspects, approves, and/or rejects phases of construction.</li>
<li>Conducts field inspections of work in progress to ensure the quality of materials used, standards of workmanship, contract compliance, and/or other related issues.</li>
<li>Prepares and issues verbal warnings, violation notices, and stop work orders to construction projects not being built in compliance with City standards and/or other applicable regulations; maintains case files regarding inspections and violations.</li>
<li>Reviews and interprets approved construction plans, specifications, and special provisions as a basis for monitoring construction activities.</li>
<li>Attends meetings and addresses concerns of interested parties.</li>
<li>Performs a variety of administrative activities in support of departmental operations, which may include: coordinating applicable training programs; facilitating training classes on technical issues; and/or, performing other related activities.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li>

<li>General knowledge of building inspection techniques;</li>
<li>Knowledge of construction and building maintenance principles;</li>
<li>Knowledge of construction materials testing procedures;</li>

<li>Skilled in performing mathematical calculations;</li>
<li>Skilled in maintaining records;</li>
<li>Skilled in prioritizing, organizing, and managing multiple simultaneous projects;</li>

<li>Skilled in reading, interpreting, applying, and explaining laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures;</li>
<li>Skilled in preparing clear and concise reports;</li>
<li>Skilled in maintaining sensitive and confidential information;</li>
<li>Skilled in operating a computer and related software applications;</li>
<li>Skilled in communicating effectively with a variety of individuals.</li>
</ul>
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
<ul>
<li>High School Diploma or G.E.D.</li>
<li>Four years of technical training in a building trade.</li>
<li>Two years’ experience as a journey-level tradesman.</li>
<li>Ability to obtain licensure as a Texas State Plumbing Inspector or two (2) ICC Certifications in building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical field within 6 months of employment.</li>
<li>Requires a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.</li>
<li>Additional certifications are required depending on types of inspections performed.</li>
</ul>
PREFERENCES: 
<ul>
<li>Licensed or Certified as a Plumber, Plumbing Inspector, Electrician or Electrical Inspector</li>
</ul>
WORKING CONDITIONS: 
<ul>
<li>Frequent climbing, balancing, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, talking, seeing, hearing, and manual dexterity.</li>
<li>Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds.</li>
<li>Work is typically performed in both standard office and outside environments, with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions.</li>
<li>Work is performed in high and precarious places and near moving mechanical parts.</li>
<li>Regular exposure to risk of electrical shock, vibration, fumes, and airborne particles.</li>
</ul>

JOB TITLE: Substitute Librarian- NBPT
 DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Library
 REPORTS TO: Library Manager
 SUMMARY: Responsible for offering professional level service filling in for reference staff at Information Service Desks at either of two library buildings whenever there are vacancies due to staff shortages, vacations, or other absences. Other responsibilities may include helping with community engagements on behalf of the Library or supporting the Library in technical or project-based services. This energetic, flexible individual is “on call” and works only as needed; there is no pre-determined schedule. This individual demonstrates excellent customer service skills, possesses strong computer skills, is knowledgeable of a variety of electronic databases, and performs readers’ advisory.
 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 
<ul>
<li>Responds to inquiries from the public in person and over the phone to help them obtain the information they are seeking; conducts research to locate related information.</li>
<li>Provides expert reference, research, and technical assistance to public from Library facilities.</li>
<li>Executes community outreach activities related to applicable services; collaborates with representatives in producing activities in our immediate community and at either Library location.</li>
<li>Performs a variety of administrative activities in support of Library operations, to be determined as needed.</li>
<li>Assists with community outreach and events, as needed.</li>
<li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul>

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
<ul>
<li>Must have an American Library Association accredited Master of Library or Information Services Degree OR be enrolled in an American Library Association accredited Master of Library or Information Services degree program and be able to obtain degree within four (4) months of employment.</li>
<li>One year of library experience.</li>
</ul>
PREFERENCES: 
<ul>
<li>Public library experience.</li>
<li>Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish.</li>
</ul>
WORKING CONDITIONS: 
<ul>
<li>Work is performed in public library environment; may include outdoor community events.</li>
<li>Must be able to stoop, bend, walk and reach and retrieve items from heights up to 7 ft. with the aid of step stools.</li>
<li>Sits and stands for extended period of time assisting customers with public access catalog, training, retrieving materials and answering desk phones.</li>
<li>Local travel may be required on an as needed basis.</li>
<li>Works a variety of day, evening, and weekend hours on as needed basis only.</li>
</ul>
