 This position reports to the agency's Deputy and Executive Directors, and provides legal advice, interprets and provides guidance on the City&rsquo;s Governmental Ethics Ordinance and related compliance rules, reviews investigations to ensure compliance with and enforcement of the ethics and campaign financing laws, and performs related duties as required.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
ESSENTIAL DUTIES</b></div><ul><li> Advises other legal staff and board members on legal issues related to departmental operations as they are affected by local, state, or federal laws, ordinances, statutes, or contracts</li><li> Manages a personal workload of complex cases and transactional matters and serves as the Board&rsquo;s main resource during ethics enforcement proceedings.</li></ul><div></div><ul><li><br>
 Conducts complex legal research and analyzes local, state, and federal laws, ordinances, and court decisions relative to legal issues affecting operating departments</li><li> Reviews complex ethics investigations referred by the Office of Inspector General for probable cause findings and compliance with relevant laws</li><li> Oversees case management activities or transactional matters, ensuring their efficient intake, handling, monitoring, and disposition</li><li> Drafts complex legal memoranda, settlement agreements, legal opinions, position statements, briefs, and other legal documents</li><li></li><li> Discusses case results with staff and prepares narrative reports summarizing case status</li><li> Conducts ethics training for City employees, officials and others, including creating and updating training curriculum and materials and ensuring that training curriculum is current</li><li> Works closely with the Department of Law on the preparation of cases for collection or referral</li><li> Maintains records and prepares reports on legal procedures for department management</li><li> Reviews and interprets various documents (e.g., legal documents, requests for information, legislation) for department management</li><li></li><li> Responds to requests for information from the Law Department, Inspector General's Office, and other outside entities</li><li> Prepares productivity reports of unit work activities and the status of pending cases and/or transactional matters</li><li> Assists in the development of departmental policies, procedures, and programs</li></ul><div></div><div><b><i><br>

The City of Chicago Law Department is seeking an attorney for the position of Assistant Corporation Counsel (&ldquo;ACC&rdquo;) I in the Legal Information and Prosecutions (&ldquo;LIP&rdquo;) Division.</p><p>
The Assistant Corporation Counsel I in the Legal Information and Prosecutions Division will:</p><ul><li><p>
Prosecute Chicago Municipal Code violations in Cook County Circuit Court, namely in Traffic Court and Branch Courts, and at the City&rsquo;s Department of Administrative Hearings.</p></li><li><p>
Defend administrative decisions from the City&rsquo;s Department of Administrative Hearings filed as an administrative appeal in Circuit Court.</p></li><li><p>
Represent the City in Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) matters, document production, electronic discovery (e-discovery), and Local Records Act (LRA) matters.</p></li></ul><p>
The ACC I will work under the general supervision of the Division&rsquo;s Supervisors, Chief, and Deputy. Duties will include, but are not limited to, trying cases; conducting hearings; researching and writing motions, memoranda and briefs; litigating administrative appeals; arguing motions; engaging in settlement negotiations; working closely with client departments; reviewing and analyzing files in a variety of cases; and recommending appropriate courses of action.</p><p><b>
