The mission of the City of Dublin's Police Internship Program is to create an opportunity for individuals interested in a career in law enforcement, public safety and/or criminal justice to gain relevant experience while working side-by-side with industry professionals. This program will assist the successful candidate in their academic pursuits through training and career development to prepare them to join the work force.</p><div></div><i><br>

<br>
Scheduling/Availability<ul><li>
Must be available to work in-person in Dublin, Ohio (no remote opportunities available)</li><li>
The Dublin Police Internship operates as a structured 16-week program and attendance policies must be adhered to<ul><li>
Each work-week will consist of approximately three 8-hour days</li><li>
Success in this program requires a commitment to a demanding and structured schedule created to make these opportunities possible</li><li>
This structured timeline can be flexible depending on the successful candidate's program/graduation requirements</li></ul></li><li>
Interns are expected to work 20-25 hours per week through the duration of their program</li><li>
Personal matters requiring leave is permitted, however, the successful candidate acknowledges this will result in unpaid leave</li></ul><br>
Note: This is a part time, hourly position that is not eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.<br>

Undergraduate Junior: $16.00/hour<br>
Undergraduate Senior: $16.50/hour<br>
First Year Graduate Student: $17.50/hour<br>
Second Year Graduate Student: $19.00/hour<br>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Examples of Duties</b></h2></div>
<div><p>The goal of the Police Internship is for the Intern to learn about the City of Dublin Police Department and how it operates in terms of administration, investigations and patrol. Tasks may be assigned to the Intern at the discretion of the Operations Bureau Commander, Internship Sergeant, or other department supervisor and may be selected based on the interests of the Intern. It is the Intern's responsibility to take ownership of the tasks and complete them with a focus on quality. Below are examples of tasks that may be covered by the Intern and Mentor:</p><br>

Work on an internship project</li><li>
Gain knowledge of agency Core Values, Mission, Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics policies</li><li>
Education on relevant case law</li><li>
Education of agency RTR, less lethal weapons and pursuit policies</li><li>
Ride-alongs</li><li>
Property impounding</li><li>
Records department</li><li>
Tactics scenarios</li><li>
Ticket filling</li><li>
Units to shadow: Community Impact Unit (CIU), Detective Bureau, School Resource Officer Program, Prosecutor's Office, Northwest Regional Communications Center (NRECC), Public Safety Liaison Coordinator, Business District Unit (BDU), Drone and the Delaware Tactics Unit.</li></ul></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Typical Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<div><p>Minimum Qualifications</p><ul><li>
Must be at least 18 years of age or older</li><li>
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree seeking program with a minimum Junior (Rank 3) standing</li><li>
Pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Public Administration or another related field</li><li>
Offer of employment will be conditional on successful completion of a background investigation (criminal record check, FBI and BCI fingerprinting), reference check, drug screen and psychological evaluation</li></ul>
Supplemental Information: All positions within this job classification have been designated as Casual in nature and all employees serving in such positions are considered to be Casual Employees. Casual employees serve strictly at the pleasure of the City and their employment may be terminated at any time for any reason, with or without cause.<div><br>
