<p></p><div><div><div><div>This classification is accountable for performing a certain level of skilled manual work in the Streets &amp; Highways Division of Public Works. Work includes road construction work under the supervision of the Streets and Highways Supervisor and in accordance with standard practices, codes and skills, and OSHA-required safety protocols.</div></div><p></p>

<div></div><ul><li>
Employee will be required to drive, load or unload designated trucks with trailers and/or attachments (such as skid steers)</li><li>
Prepares truck or equipment for operation by performing routine safety check before and after operating equipment</li><li>
Performs maintenance and cleaning of designated equipment; gathering of tools, equipment, materials and supplies</li><li>
Performs general carpentry, maintenance, mechanical, construction, painting, and/or tree grounds work</li><li>
Performs semi- and skilled trades work</li><li>
Performs other related duties as requested, including those of lower classifications</li><li>
Must be willing to accept assignment to overtime for emergency duties including snow and ice removal as required, including evenings, weekends and holidays</li><li>
May be assigned on the job training under the supervision of a higher classified employee</li></ul><div></div><div><b><br>
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES</b></div><br>

Considerable knowledge of and ability to utilize standard tools, materials, methods and practices of manual work in a specific line of work, including operating equipment and machinery</li><li>
Ability to perform heavy manual work for extended periods, sometimes under unfavorable or extreme weather conditions including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; may also require lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of materials</li><li>
Some knowledge of trades work</li><li>
Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions and directives</li><li>
Ability to read and write</li><li>
Ability to understand and adhere to safety protocols</li><li>
Ability to acquire skills to operate increasingly complex equipment through on the job and/or external training</li><li>
Ability to perform in a courteous and professional manner amongst staff and the public on a daily basis</li><li>
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and superiors</li><li>
Operate different truck sizes; may operate CDL Trucks &amp; Stump Grinder, motorized tools, and motorized equipment</li><li>
May be required to spread, rake and compact asphalt/cold patch</li><li>
May be required to use a chainsaw and wood chipper; create and install signage</li><li>
May be required to use a sweeper, roadside flail mower,</li></ul></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Graduation from High School or GED or any combination of experience and training which would provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above</li><li>
In order to advance within the job series, at least 2 years of experience in the prior lower-level Maintainer position is required, with any combination of construction work, road work, building maintenance and custodial work, grounds maintenance work, and driving</li><li>
Possess a valid Connecticut Driver&rsquo;s License and a Class B Commercial Driver&rsquo;s License with air brake endorsement (Class A for Maintainer V)</li></ul></div><p></p>
