The Deputy Court Clerk performs a wide variety of technical, legal, and clerical duties in support of the Municipal Court operation for the City of Georgetown. This position requires substantial knowledge of all court and Judicial Court Department processes, procedures, rules, and authority. This position will assist defendants in person at the court window, by telephone, and through email correspondence. This includes processing payments of fines, fees, bonds, and warrants, setting cases for court, extensions, payment plans, driving safety, and compliance dismissals.<br>

Under the direct supervision of the Municipal Court Administrator, maintains all court records, assists the Judge and Prosecutor, assists customers on the telephone and in person at the cashier&rsquo;s window, requires specialized knowledge of court operations, policies, and procedures, and completes related work as required. Work involves judicial and financial record keeping, requiring the exercise of judgment within established departmental guidelines and policies. Responsibility for receiving payment for a variety of transactions requiring knowledge of legal codes, payment and charge codes, regulations, and department and city policies.<br>

Work is performed independently within established policies and procedures and is reviewed by internal checks and audits, and through conferences and reports.<div></div><div>

Reviews and processes performed community service hours or non-cash requests; ensures information is recorded in multiple data systems.</div></li><li><div>
Provides quality customer service to Municipal Court customers by explaining court procedures and driver&rsquo;s safety courses.</div></li><li><div>
Assists the public in person and by phone and may interpret for Spanish-speaking defendants.</div></li><li><div>
Records and processes mail.</div></li><li><div>
Ensures the effective coordination of Municipal Court operations to the team and other City departments by communicating effectively on problems and issues.</div></li><li><div>
Responsible for warrant administration by sending notices, preparing court documents recalling warrants as necessary, and ensuring accurate information is sent to DPS for the Failure to Appear program.</div></li><li><div>
Responsible for accurate court disposition and fine records by collecting payments, posting correctly to the court system, and balancing a cash drawer and depositing collections, following the established cashiering procedures; records and processes mail.</div></li><li><div>
Captures documents in a document imaging system to maximize productivity and provide efficient retrieval of information.</div></li><li><div>
Assists with the coordination of docket processing by setting and reviewing case information, sending notices, preparing summons or subpoenas, preparing court documents, and providing assistance to judge and prosecutor.</div></li><li><div>
Executes and transcribes court dockets and records dispositions.</div></li><li><div>
Acts as liaison between police, jail, and judge to make arrangements for the judge to provide magistration to persons jailed on MC warrants.</div></li><li><div>
Stays abreast of legislature and court procedures and training related to court duties.</div></li><li><div>
Performs other duties as assigned.</div></li></ul><div></div><div>
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:</div><div>
Education, training, and Experience Guidelines</div><ul><li><div>
High school diploma or equivalent. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.</div></li><li><div>
One (1) year of full-time experience as a court clerk in a computerized system.</div></li></ul><div></div><div>
Knowledge of:</div><ul><li><div>
Clerical procedures of processing, recording, and preparing legal documents, records, and reports related to court operations.</div></li><li><div>
City ordinances, court procedures, and legislation pertinent to clerical work</div></li></ul><div></div><div>
Skill in:</div><ul><li><div>
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, outside agencies, and the general public.</div></li><li><div>
Using computers and related software programs.</div></li><li><div>
Exercising discretion in confidential matters.</div></li><li><div>
Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.</div></li><li><div>
Reads TMCEC clerk manual, memoranda, legislation, and educational materials.</div></li></ul><div></div><div>
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS</div><ul><li><div>
Valid Class &quot;C&quot; Texas driver&rsquo;s license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three-year driving history.</div></li><li><div>
Must obtain a Court Clerk Certificate within one (1) year.</div></li></ul><div></div><div>
