Thank you for your interest in employment with the City of Greenacres [FL]. The salary indicated for this position corresponds with a 48-hour average duty week. Greenacres Fire Rescue is proud to roll out the Spartan Schedule effective 10/1/2026, making us the first department in Florida with this unique 42-hour work week which consists of a 24/48, 24/96 rotation.<br>

The minimum requirements for employment as a Firefighter/EMT are as follows:<br>
<ul><li>
Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and be at least eighteen (18) years of age.</li><li>
Must have graduated from an accredited high school,or have obtained a State of Florida G.E.D. certificate or equivalent.</li><li>
Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver's license.</li><li>
Must live in the state of Florida.</li><li>
Must submit to Level II fingerprinting with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and PBSO upon offer of employment.</li><li>
Must be of good moral character.</li><li>
Must submit to a post offer psychological, CVSA, and physical examination with drug screen. The offer of employment will be conditioned on the results of testing and/or examinations.</li></ul><div>
All Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technicians serve a one (1) year probationary period.</div><p><b>

State Certified Paramedics may be eligible to test for a Paramedic assignment upon successful completion of the Greenacres EMT Field Training Program and the department Paramedic pre-requisite testing.</b></p><p><b>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><div><b>Position Summary: </b>Protects life and property through fire prevention and suppression, basic life support and rescue actions.
</div><p><b>Essential Duties and Responsibilities:</b>(<i>The duties listed are intended to serve as an example of the typical functions performed. They are not exclusive or all inclusive and will vary with assignments.)</i></p><ul><li>
Responds to emergency and non-emergency medical calls for service.</li><li>
Responds to fire related calls for service.</li><li>
Provides emergency medical treatment to injured persons using modern EMS techniques.</li><li>
Engages in the suppression of fire activity, as directed.</li><li>
Engages in the operation of extrication and immobilization equipment.</li><li>
Engages in the delivery and proper positioning of emergency vehicles and fire apparatus to scenes.</li><li>
Participates in rescue operations by carrying individuals from danger.</li><li>
Engages in the transporting of patients to area hospitals.</li><li>
Performs maintenance tests on medical and fire equipment, including vehicles, to assure they&rsquo;re functioning properly.</li><li>
Performs blood pressure evaluations.</li><li>
Participates in fire training to maintain an acceptable level of proficiency.</li><li>
Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul></div><p></p>

<li>Principles and practices of firefighting to include fire rescue, evacuation, exposures, confinement, extinguishment, radio communications, and ventilation.
</li><li>Fire prevention techniques including detection of common fire hazards.
</li><li>Principles and practices of emergency medical procedures and skill in their application.
</li><li>Geography of the response areas, including water distribution.
</li><li>Common basic medical prefixes and suffixes.</li></ul><div><b>
Ability to:</b></div><ul>
<li>React quickly and calmly in emergencies.
</li><li>Perform maintenance tests on fire equipment.
</li><li>Understand basics of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and how it pertains during routine and emergency situations.
</li><li>Maintain clear, concise, and accurate records.
</li><li>Interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
</li><li>Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor.
</li><li>Maintain high standards for professional and ethical conduct.
</li><li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, public agencies, vendors and the general public.
</li><li>Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
</li><li>Follow safety rules and regulations of the Department and the City.

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Education &amp; Experience</b></h2></div>
<p></p><div><ul><li>Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a State issued G.E.D. certificate or equivalent.</li><li>
Possess and maintains a valid State of Florida Class E driver's license.</li><li>
Must Possess and maintain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic in the State of Florida.</li><li>
Possess and maintain State of Florida Certification for Firefighter II.</li><li>
Possess and maintain a valid Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card from American Red Cross or American Heart Association at the Health Care Provider level.</li><li>
Documentation of successful completion of Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC), or reasonable equivalent as approved by the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.</li></ul></div></div></div><p></p>
