Assisting with other library programs as needed.</li></ul>

Work Schedule: Monday - Saturday, with a Tuesday evening shift until 8pm, shifts will vary.</div>

Summer Intern/Library Aide

<div>A typical day as a Battalion Chief with the City of Katy begins with a clear focus: ensuring the safety, readiness, and effectiveness of both personnel and operations. From the start of the shift, the Battalion Chief maintains an active presence within the stations-checking in with crews, reviewing staffing levels, and confirming that equipment and facilities are in proper working order. Establishing a steady, positive tone is essential, as it sets expectations for performance and professionalism throughout the department. Daily responsibilities require balancing operational oversight with personnel leadership. The Battalion Chief supervises training activities, ensures compliance with certification requirements, and provides guidance to company officers. Developing personnel and maintaining high standards of performance are key components of the role. When emergency calls are received, the Battalion Chief responds as a command-level officer, directing firefighting, rescue, and emergency operations. This includes establishing command, coordinating resources, and making critical decisions under pressure to protect life and property. In addition to emergency response, the Battalion Chief is responsible for a range of administrative and operational duties. These include managing schedules and staffing assignments, overseeing equipment maintenance and inspections, monitoring certifications, and ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Leadership also extends to personnel management. The Battalion Chief participates in hiring, evaluation, and discipline, while promoting a professional and respectful work environment. Effective communication, conflict resolution, and team development are essential to maintaining a cohesive and motivated workforce. This position plays a critical role in maintaining departmental readiness and is designated as essential personnel during emergency or disaster situations, requiring availability to support continuity of operations as needed. 48/96 Schedule! Extensive experience in firefighting and command operations</li><li>
Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills</li><li>
Ability to manage personnel, resources, and emergency incidents effectively</li><li>
Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and operational standards</li><li>
Required certifications and licensure as outlined in the job description</li><li>Applicants must be a Paramedic and must have held or currently hold the position of Captain or higher.</li></ul>
