</b></div><div><b>JOB SUMMARY</b><b>: </b>Deputy Clerk is a division staff member working under the direction and guidance of the Chief Deputy Clerk. This position is part-time working 8 hour days, three days per week. Permanent part-time employees not covered by a collective bargaining agreement, who have completed one full year of service or more, shall be entitled to vacation in the subsequent year. This position's salary is $29,952 per year ($24 / hour).</div><div></div><div><br>
The Deputy Clerk has immediate administrative and clerical responsibilities related to daily case filings and case management, weekly docket proceedings, general public inquiries, acceptance of payments and issuance of receipts, and specific assigned job duties and responsibilities.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
QUALIFICATIONS:</b><b> </b>Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and extensive experience as a deputy court clerk, paralegal, or legal secretary. Certification as a paralegal or college degree with major course work in criminal justice, business, public administration, or related field desirable.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</b><b>
</b></div><div><ul><li>Processing newly filed citations, summons and complaints</li><li>
Answering general inquiries from public, attorneys, law enforcement officers, prosecutors and others via phone, mail and in person</li><li>
Managing case data including filings, dispositions, journalizations, post judgment activities, BMV reporting</li><li>
Managing financial responsibility compliance and reporting</li><li>
Processing felony case bindovers to Common Pleas Court</li><li>
Processing declaration of forfeitures via BMV</li><li>
Processing payment agreements and related procedures</li><li>
Processing adjudicated cases, e.g.: out of court computations, payment exchanges, receipt processing, updating case file records</li></ul></div><div><ul><li>
Processing appeals</li><li>
Recording statistics for annual report requirements</li><li>
Processing mittimus, warrants, certified journal entries, record check investigations, subpoenas, etc.</li><li>
Making jail reimbursement assignments and processing</li><li>
Processing and recording bail bond filings</li><li>
Issuing case continuance notices</li><li>
Documenting record clearance and modifications via BMV</li><li>
Receiving jail lists twice a day from police department</li><li>
Maintaining assigned cash drawer</li><li>
Refunding of cash bonds and writing court checks</li><li>
Processing mail waivers</li><li>
&ldquo;CRIS/LEADS&rdquo; certified</li></ul></div><div>
 <b>KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES</b><b>:</b></div><div>
Knowledge of business practices; spelling and arithmetic; ability to operate office, word processing and data entry equipment; ability to plan and prioritize work; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with court staff, court officials, associations, attorneys, law enforcement officers and the general public. Attention to detail is very important.</div><div><br>
</div><div><b>WORKING CONDITIONS</b><b>:</b></div><div>
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects; work requires typing and data entry; verbal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.</div><div></div><div><b><br>
MISCELLANEOUS</b><b>:</b></div><div>
All Clerks are expected to: adhere to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Lakewood Municipal Court Employee Handbook; work the general counter to accept and process filings, accept and record daily payments including bond monies, and assist the public as needed; answer the phones and direct calls to proper areas and persons; timestamp incoming daily filings; prepare certified copies of court records as required; and total and complete daily deposit slips for monies receipted. Departmental mail is received daily and distributed accordingly. Must maintain confidentiality and a firm yet helpful approach is necessary for this position.</div></div><div></div>
