The City of Largo is seeking a creative and energetic Recreation Leader II to join our team at the Southwest Pool. This fun and rewarding role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating a variety of aquatic and leisure programs that serve our vibrant community.<br>

What You&rsquo;ll Do:<br>
Design and lead engaging aquatic programs such as swim lessons, water fitness classes, and special events.<br>
Create seasonal schedules and assist with marketing and outreach efforts.<br>
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.<br>
Supervise part-time staff and volunteers during programs and events.<br>
Evaluate program success and recommend improvements.<br>
Collaborate with other recreation divisions as needed.<br>

Responsible for the development of assigned programs, including purchase requisitions, preparation of basic professional, instructor, and rental contracts for supervisory review, publicity, the delegation of assignments to staff and volunteers, determination of program costs, revenue projections, and program evaluations</li><li>
May assist in the training of staff and volunteers; may supervise contractual workers</li><li>
Confers with community groups, individuals, and contractual instructors to determine the needs of the participants; deals with the public tactfully and diplomatically</li><li>
Assists in program and membership registrations, collects fees, and prepares necessary reports</li><li>
Administers first aid or seeks appropriate help; prepares injury reports</li><li>
Collects league rosters and liability waivers</li><li>
Ensures security of an area or facility; enforces rules, regulations, and safety precautions; maintains order and discipline; sets up equipment or facility for assigned programs</li><li>
May be a lead staff member and responsible for a facility in the absence of a supervisor</li><li>
Recommends facility maintenance and assists with work orders as needed</li><li>
Assists in creating marketing materials, prepares publicity fliers, brochures, and updates program information on the City website</li><li>

AQUATICS:</div><ul><li>
Assists with lifeguarding, seasonal staff training, developing aquatic programs, setting up and teaching swim lessons, supervising rentals, and aquatic special events</li><li>
May oversee the seasonal operation of a facility during the summer</li><li>
Assists or directs daily set up of the pool to include starting blocks, lane ropes, solar blankets, tents, etc.</li><li>
Assists with monitoring pool chemistry as assigned; may assist with cleaning responsibilities at the facilities, including the pool deck and locker room facilities</li></ul><div></div><div>

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.</div><div></div><div>
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</div><div></div><div>
Education and Experience:</div><ul><li>
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and two (2) years of college course work in recreation or a closely related field and two (2) years directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience</li><li>
Aquatic staff need current American Red Cross Certifications as lifeguard and water safety instructor; prefer future certifications as Instructor Trainer in lifeguarding and water safety</li></ul><div></div><div>
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</div><ul><li>
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as word processing programs, spreadsheets, email, and other communication tools</li><li>
Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and equipment requirements of recreation programs</li><li>
Ability to plan, organize and supervise recreation programs or special events</li><li>
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing</li><li>
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public</li><li>
Ability to do light to heavy manual work</li></ul><div>
AQUATICS:</div><ul><li>
Knowledge of pool chemistry, filtration backwash, and water rescue procedures and equipment</li><li>
Ability to focus for long periods</li><li>
Knowledge of Child Labor Laws, Health Department Regulations, and Red Cross Standards</li></ul><div></div><div>
WORK ENVIRONMENT &amp; PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS</div><div></div><div>
Work Environment:</div><div>
AQUATICS: 30% inside a climate-controlled building and 70% outside.</div><div>
Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require sitting up to five (5) hours per day, standing approximately one (1) hour per day, and walking approximately two (2) hours per day. The work requires frequent bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting, and carrying objects weighing 15 to 45 pounds.</div><div>
AQUATICS: Must be able to focus for long periods and physically set up and remove starting blocks, lane ropes, and solar blankets. Must have the ability to pass a swim test.</div><div>
ATHLETICS: Must have the ability to do field maintenance and lining fields for sports tournaments and special events. Must have the ability to set up course requirements for 5K or 10K races.</div><div>
SPECIAL EVENTS: Must be able to load, unload and drive Cushman vehicles and trucks for event setups throughout the event area, including paved and uneven surfaces.</div><div>
CENTRAL PARK PERFORMING ARTS CENTER: Must be able to set up tables, chairs, and other event equipment. Must be able to drive a golf cart with passengers.</div><div>
Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Ability to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone. Speaking: Ability to communicate orally with others in person, on the phone, and while making group presentations. Seeing: Ability to see and read computer monitor screens and detect color coding. Ability to sense weather and safety considerations for events.<br>
Driving Requirements: The work requires frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Class &quot;E&quot; Driver's License.<br>
Technology: The work requires the ability to operate telephones, smartphones, tablets, laminators, photocopiers, printers, desktop and laptop computers, calculators, park radios, and all associated software.</div><div></div><div>
