Position Summary: </b>Under the supervision of the Library Accounts Supervisor, process returned Library materials; sort and shelve materials according to Library standards; process patron holds; perform inventory tasks; assist Library customers as needed; provide excellent customer service.</p><p><b>
Distinguishing Characteristics:</b> First-level class of series. Under direct supervision, performs entry-level professional duties such as preparing recurring reports and analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing data. Employees at this level initially work under close supervision while performing duties and learning the procedures related to the assigned area of responsibility.</p></div><p></p>

Process and reconcile library materials return bins.</li><li>
Sort, shelve and search for library materials using the Dewey Decimal Classification system.</li><li>
Monitor the condition of returned materials and route to appropriate location.</li><li>
Assist with the inventor of library materials.</li><li>
Assist the public with directional inquiries.</li><li>
Maintain customer records confidentiality.</li><li>
Maintain Library shelves in a neat and orderly fashion.</li><li>
Alphabetize and numerically sequence books and library materials.</li><li>
Assist and back up other areas as assigned.</li><li>
Assist with opening and closing procedures.</li><li>
Participate in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the Library.</li><li>
Performs all other related duties as assigned.</li></ul></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Position Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>Education: </b>High School Diploma or GED preferred.<br>
<br>
<b>Experience:</b> Must be at least 16 years of age. 6 months of Library experience preferred<br>
Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements<b>.</b><br>

<b>Licenses and Certifications:</b> None.<br>

<b>Conditions of Employment: </b>Must submit to and pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug, physical exam, and job performance assessment.<br>

<b>Other Requirements: </b>Must be available to workdays, evenings, and/or weekends as required.<br>

<b>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS &amp; ABILITIES</b><br>
<b>Knowledge of:</b> Dewey Decimal Classification system, preferred.<br>
<br>
<b>Skilled in:</b> Skill in operating a variety of office equipment and software including personal computers, scanners, Microsoft Office, internet, email, and other equipment or software typically used in library services. Skill in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Attention to detail and accuracy.<br>
<br>
<b>Physical Demands and Working Conditions</b>: This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds.<br>

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.<br>
