<div>Job Summary:

The Part Time Assistant City Attorney primarily prosecutes cases in Municipal Court and to perform such extra duties and responsibilities assigned by the City Attorney, including providing legal representation and advice to the City, City Council, City boards and commissions, and City staff.

The salary range for this position is $49.61 - $69.45 per hour, with a hiring range of $49.61 - $59.53, depending on qualifications and experience.

This is a part-time position, working 20 hours per week.
This opportunity will be available to applicants until Monday, November 24, 2025, at 12:00 P.M. M.S.T.

We are seeking a hungry, humble and smart attorney to join our team to assist primarily with Municipal Court prosecution with the possibility of additional non-prosecution assignments for other City departments and functions.

Essential Functions:
<ul>
<li>Prosecutes cases in Municipal Court, which includes meeting with defendants and their attorneys; meeting with police officers, code enforcement officials, witnesses and victims; responding to written motions of defendants; processing and preparing cases for trial; presenting cases in jury trials and trials to the court; researching the law.</li>
<li>Interprets federal, state and local laws, rulings and regulations.</li>
<li>Provides legal advice to City Council, City departments and officials, and various City boards and commissions.</li>
<li>Prepares contracts, ordinances, resolutions and other legal documents.</li>
<li>Reviews City contracts and other legal documents for legal sufficiency and potential legal implications.</li>
<li>Identifies potential and actual legal issues raised by City policies and practices and recommends actions to address such issues.</li>
<li>Performs legal research, write briefs, memorandum and opinions of law for the City Attorney, City Council, City boards and commissions, City staff, and in conjunction with litigation activities.</li>
<li>Performs professional legal work carrying the highest levels of volume, complexity, consequence, autonomy and responsibility. Regularly drafts motions, proposed orders, and other court documents.</li>
<li>Represents the City in prosecuting Municipal Code violations.</li>
<li>Attend meetings of boards and commissions as assigned.</li>
<li>Keeps the City Attorney, or a direct supervisor, regularly informed of matters being handled as required by the City Attorney.</li>
<li>Performs such other duties as are assigned or required by the City Attorney.</li>

Qualifications:

Education:
<ul>
<li>Required: A Law Degree (LD) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school.</li>
</ul>
Experience:
<ul>
<li>Required: 1 year experience in criminal and/or administrative prosecution.</li>
<li>Some: Experience in any other areas of municipal law.</li>
</ul>
Certifications:
<ul>
<li>Must be licensed to actively practice law in the State of Colorado and be in good standing with the Colorado Supreme Court.</li>
<li>Valid driver&rsquo;s license preferred.</li>
</ul>

<ul>

<li>Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.</li>
<li>Ability to use word processing and presentation software, and to do on-line legal research.</li>
<li>Ability to work independently in protecting the legal interests of the City and in supporting the goals and objectives of the City Council, City Manager and City Attorney.</li>
<li>Ability to perform with integrity; demonstrate honesty and sensitivity to ethical issues; and avoid actual or apparent impropriety and/or conflicts of interest.</li>
<li>Exercise appropriate judgment, often under pressure, consistent with the highest levels of volume, complexity, consequence, autonomy and responsibility attending the position.</li>
<li>Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and officials, co-workers and the public, and deal with problems timely, effectively, courteously and tactfully.</li>

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
<ul>
<li>Frequent: Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.</li>
</ul>
Working Environment:
<ul>
<li>Frequent: Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.</li>
<li>Occasional: Exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.</li>
</ul>
Additional Working Demands/Conditions:
<ul>
<li>Requires much mental effort, study and concentration, and often under pressure of time and adverse consequences of error or failure.</li>
<li>Working early morning, evening, holiday and weekend hours is sometimes required.</li>
<li>Regularly required to talk and hear and the demands on the visual senses are very high.</li>
<li>Frequently required to stand and walk. Required to reach with hands and arms and occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.</li>
