City of Madison Heights - Part Time Librarian</h2><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES</b>: To perform professional library work - scheduled as follows: Monday-Tuesday 4pm-8pm, Wednesday 12pm-4pm, Thursday 9:30am-3:00pm, alternating Friday or Saturday 9:30am-5pm year-round.<br>

SUPERVISION RECEIVED</b>: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Library Director, other full-time employees or designee; however, an employee in this position is expected to work independently without constant supervision.</h2><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
SUPERVISION EXERCISED</b>: Occasionally act as staff member in charge in absence of full-time staff.</h2><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK</b>: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.) Other duties may be assigned as necessary; employee holding this position is expected to maintain and update knowledge in job-related skills, office procedures, and office equipment. Assist the community with information resources and technology support. &bull; Promote the value of the library to the community. &bull; Work collaboratively with other staff members of the library to generate programs that appeal to the community. &bull; Conduct outreach programs by providing library services offsite to promote the library to those who cannot come to the library themselves. &bull; Assist as needed with circulation, interlibrary loan functions, youth services, teen services, and community services. &bull; Select and deselect areas of collection as assigned as assigned (collection development). &bull; Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other programs such as Adobe Acrobat &bull; Establish and maintain effective working relations, and work pleasantly and effectively with elected officials, department heads, supervisors, employees, union officials, other governmental agencies and the general public even during stressful situations. &bull; Occasionally act as staff member in charge when full-time staff are out of building. &bull; Perform related work as required.</h2><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</b>: &bull; Graduation from an accredited four-year university with major coursework in liberal arts or related field. &bull; Master&rsquo;s degree in library science from an ALA accredited library science program or currently enrolled. &bull; One-year prior experience working in a public library desirable.</h2><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>

The person in this position frequently moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery etc. May occasionally move file boxes weighing more than 25 pounds. The person in this position constantly communicates staff and general public. Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in all situations.</h2><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
