 The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City&rsquo;s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the city towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, providers, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities.  The DOC seeks to recruit an Associate Commissioner to support the innovation and strategies for emerging adults in DOC&rsquo;s care. With guidance of the First Deputy Commissioner and in partnership with the Division of Programs and Community Partnerships, the Associate Commissioner manages and supervises the daily services for the Division&rsquo;s Civic Engagement, Chaplaincy Services Unit, Data Management Unit, Program Development &amp; Community Partnerships, Volunteer/Service Provider Unit, and Executive Directors/Program Coordinators; develops and leads the strategy and process to address living and working conditions at Rikers Island for emerging adults with an eye towards scale for all incarcerated people across programs, operations, and communications streams. Having wide latitude for independent judgement and decision making, the Associate Commissioner will also develop and lead the strategy and process for other projects as identified that aim to address violence and improve the living and working conditions and culture at Rikers Island across programs, operations, and communications streams. All work will center a commitment to race equity, healing, and human dignity, and be in partnership with the people most impacted including current and formerly incarcerated people and line staff. Associate Commissioner, Youth Program Operations

 The Police Laboratory analyzes evidence that is submitted related to crime. The evidence may be firearms, controlled substances, clothing or anything that may be deemed probative to the determination of the events and persons at a crime scene. After the evidence is analyzed, the resultant paperwork must be scanned and submitted to the various District Attorney's offices in the anticipation of possible use during a trial. Some of the work has time constraints because of the needs of the courts.
 
 
 The Police Laboratory is seeking qualified candidates for Criminalist 1A/1B positions. Candidates selected will be assigned to the Police Laboratory to receive training for and the performance of scientific laboratory analyses, and the testing of evidentiary material required in scientific criminal and civil investigations.
 
 
 Duties may include, but will not be limited to the following:

 Perform chemical, physical, and microscopic analyses/examinations on a wide range of evidence, such as gunshot residue, gunshot pattern, accelerants, questioned documents, controlled substance and drug identification, metals, toolmarks, explosives, imprints, impressions, plastics, paint, glass, fingerprint development, fire debris analysis, and other types of trace and forensic evidence analyses/comparisons.
 </li>

 Train in routine repairs and preventive maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and analytical instruments
