Position Summary:
Provides support in the daily operations of the Victim Services Unit; advocates for victims of crime; provides support services for victims of crime; and serves as a liaison between victims of crime/witnesses to crime to the criminal justice process/system.
Essential Duties:<ul><li>
Coordinates and works with law enforcement, the City Prosecutor's office, City Court, outside agencies, and victims of crime; conducts interviews with victims.
</li><li>Assists victims in completing petitions for court orders in securing protective orders and with filing compensation claims.
</li><li>Accompanies victims to shelters and/or court; informs them of their constitutional and statutory mandated Crime Victims' Rights.
</li><li>Compiles data and reviews related reports and correspondence related to the Victim Services Unit.
</li><li>Coordinates with community agencies and resources on behalf of Victim Services Unit to obtain services such as legal aid, counseling, shelter, emergency financial help, and employment.
</li><li>Serves as a liaison for witnesses and victims throughout the criminal justice process; provides emotional support.
</li><li>Documents and manages case files.
</li><li>Keeps accurate statistical records of victim contacts.
</li><li>Conducts SART/IMT and YC-CCRT case reviews
</li><li>Participates in community events to promote services and resources.
</li><li>Attends mandatory training programs.
</li><li>Trains volunteers and matches to task.
</li><li>Maintain regular attendance.
</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Optional Duties: 
Primary/Backup handler of an Emotional Support Facility Canine assigned to the Victim Services Unit. Those duties include:<ul><li>
Attending and passing a qualified Canine Handler Certification course
</li><li>Maintaining the canine's wellbeing (food, grooming, veterinarian visits)
</li><li>Housing the canine at employee's residence on days assigned the canine
</li><li>Responding with the canine to traumatic scenes, functions with victims of crimes, Department and Grant approved presentations/functions, and other City Departments.</li></ul>
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or GED is required. A degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Counseling, Psychology, or a closely related field is preferred, but not required; two (2) years of experience working or interning/volunteering in the field of criminal justice, social work, crisis intervention, victim advocacy, or case management; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Possess a valid Arizona driver's license.

</li><li>Ability to be sensitive to the needs of crime victims.
</li><li>Ability to establish rapport with people of various ethnicities and socio-economic backgrounds.
</li><li>Ability to maintain confidentiality of victim information obtained in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes.
</li><li>Ability to apply logic in a multi-tasking environment.
</li><li>Ability to comprehend and process new information quickly and accurately.
</li><li>Ability to perform duties and responsibilities independently.
</li><li>Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
</li><li>Ability to maintain records and findings, documents, correspondence, and related files and records.
</li><li>Ability to respond to citizen requests in a courteous and effective manner.
</li><li>Ability to establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with law enforcement officers, community organizations, other City employees, state and local elected officials, and the public.

Physical Demands And Working Conditions:<ul><li>
Work is performed primarily in a standard City office environment and courtroom setting with some exposure to difficult and challenging personal circumstances.
</li><li>Possess sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and physical reflexes to perform job duties.
</li><li>Safely lifts to 20 pounds and can sit and work at a keyboard for an extended period of time.
</li><li>Possess capability to reduce exposure to risk in working with hostile, resistant, and unstable persons.
</li><li>Possess clarity of speech and hearing permitting ability to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively on the telephone, in person, and in writing.
</li>Work is performed dealing with crisis situations that require making major decisions involving people, resources, and property, such as safe, secure, and stable work environment).
