</div><div><b>JOB SUMMARY</b></div>
<div>This position is responsible for performing fire suppression and emergency rescue services.</div>
<div></div><div><b>MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS</b></div>
<ul><li>Georgia Firefighter Certification Preferred.</li>
<li>Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.</li>
<li>Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.</li>
<li>Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver&rsquo;s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.</li>
<li>Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the National Fire Protection Association and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act.</li>
</ul><div><b>MAJOR DUTIES</b></div>
<ul><li>Responds to fire alarms, traffic accidents, medical emergencies, rescue calls, and other emergencies as a member of a fire and rescue team.</li>
<li>Selects hose nozzle, depending on type of fire, and directs stream of water or chemicals into fire.</li>
<li>Positions and climbs ladders to gain access to upper levels of buildings to rescue individuals from burning buildings.</li>
<li>Drives apparatus and equipment to and fire scenes.</li>
<li>Creates openings in buildings for ventilation or entrance.</li>
<li>Searches buildings and rescues victims from structures and vehicles.</li>
<li>Protects property from water and smoke by use of waterproof salvage covers, smoke ejectors, and other equipment.</li>
<li>Provides first responder emergency medical care including basic first aid and CPR to injured persons and those overcome by fire and smoke.</li>
<li>Assists EMS personnel and other qualified staff in advanced life support emergency medical care; transports EMS personnel to the hospital as required.</li>
<li>Tests and maintains power tools and equipment.</li>
<li>Communicates with supervisor and other Firefighters during emergency calls by portable two-way radio and other communication devices.</li>
<li>Rescues individuals and animals from situations in which they are physically trapped.</li>
<li>Contains, controls and decontaminates hazardous materials spills as certified.</li>
<li>Performs a variety of salvage and clean-up operations, including removing water, chemicals and debris as certified.</li>
<li>Supports inspections of buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances.</li>
<li>Makes presentations on fire safety, burn prevention and fire prevention to schools and community groups.</li>
<li>Maintains apparatus, quarters, buildings, equipment, grounds and hydrants.</li>
<li>Participates in drills, demonstrations and courses in hydraulics, pump operation and maintenance, and firefighting techniques.</li>
