While maintaining a fulfilling work-life balance, this position offers a stable &amp; engaging environment for long-term career satisfaction.Duties:<ul><li>Advises City Commission &amp; City management on municipal legal matters; prescribes &amp; adopts rules of practice &amp; procedure consistent with the laws of the state of Kansas.</li><li>Drafts &amp; reviews documents including contracts, leases, purchase agreements, ordinances, resolutions, policies, &amp; other legal documents.</li><li>Solves problems &amp; balances political positions of the Commission with a pragmatic approach.</li><li>Provides legal guidance on contract interpretation, negotiation, &amp; obligations, identifying &amp; mitigating potential legal risks.</li><li>Translates complex legal concepts into plain English; conducts legal research &amp; provides opinions to the City Commission, City Manager&rsquo;s Office, department heads, &amp; other stakeholders.</li><li>Prepares for and/or supervises civil litigation.</li><li>Acts as legal advisor to various City boards &amp; commissions, attending City Commission meetings &amp; other meetings as needed.</li></ul>Education:<ul><li>Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited Law School.</li><li>Licensure to practice law before the Supreme Court of the State of Kansas or licensed in another state with the ability to become licensed within six (6) months of appointment.</li></ul>Experience:<ul><li>Seven (7) years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney or in-house or corporate counsel, including some experience in municipal law.</li></ul>Requirements:<ul><li>Must live within 40 minutes&rsquo; drive time.</li></ul>Work Type:<ul><li>Light, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.</li></ul>Equipment:<ul><li>Computer, tablet, copy machine, telephone, fax &amp; calculator.</li></ul>Hours:<ul><li>Monday &ndash; Friday.</li><li>8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.</li><li>Attends meetings outside normal office hours.</li></ul>Pay DOQ EOE:<ul><li>$122,460-195,935/yr.</li></ul>Paid Time Off:<ul><li>60 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 60 hours earned during the year (120 hours in first year).</li></ul>96 hours of sick leave during first year.Application Deadline: Until filledApply: jobs.salina-ks.govJob Type: Full-timePay: $122,460.00 - $195,935.00 per yearBenefits:<ul><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Employee assistance program</li><li>Flexible spending account</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Life insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Referral program</li><li>Retirement plan</li><li>Tuition reimbursement</li><li>Vision insurance</li></ul>Work Location: In person
