About This Position: 
Under the direction of the Director of Education and Student Services, the Physical Education Teacher plans and provides for appropriate educational experiences for students who have a wide range of learning, behavioral, and emotional disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress aligned with their Individualized Education Program (IEP); creates a flexible program and learning environment that the will allow students to succeed.
<ul><li>Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate</li><li>
Provide differentiated and integrated assessment and evaluation strategies to support student learning</li><li>
Establish and support guidelines for behavior and procedures for maintaining an environment conducive to learning for all students</li><li>
Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with the school&rsquo;s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Plans (PBIS)</li><li>
Use technology to assist in developing, providing and supporting instruction for special education students</li><li>
Confer with administrators, social workers, and other professionals to implement IEPs designed to promote students&rsquo; educational, physical, and social/emotional development</li><li>
Develop, facilitate, evaluate, and interpret achievement testing and vocational aptitude examinations</li><li>
Collaborate with other academic teachers to integrate course content and provide support for students experiencing behavioral and academic challenges within the educational program</li><li>
Assist in developing transition planning for students returning to the public-school setting, workplace setting, and/or other educational programs</li><li>
Provide educational case management services for identified students as needed</li><li>
Be an active member on an interdisciplinary treatment team</li></ul> 

Minimal Requirements:<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Education - Required</li><li>
Connecticut State Department of Education certification or willingness to pursue (#044) - Required</li><li>
Experience with teaching students - Preferred</li><li>
Ability to develop a positive classroom culture/environment based on diverse student needs</li><li>

Hours and Rate of Pay:<ul><li>
Monday-Friday 11:30am-3:00pm - 17 1/2 hours per week</li><li>
Hourly range between $27-$35 per hour based on qualifications, education, certifications and experience.</li></ul>

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
Under the direction of the Director of Education and Student Services, the Physical Education Teacher provides physical and health education to positively influence students both mentally and physically. The PE teacher will prepare lessons while keeping students&rsquo; physical needs, apprehensions, and challenges in mind. The PE teacher will have the ability to motivate students to perform physical activities while making them competitive and cooperative at the same time. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:<ul><li>
Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health or related subject - Required</li><li>
Appropriate CSDE Certification (#044 Physical Education, PK-12)<ul><li>
Or willingness to peruse and acquire this certification</li></ul></li><li>
Experience with teaching students in special education programs - Preferred but not required</li><li>
Experience with developing a positive classroom culture/environment based on diverse student needs - Preferred but not required</li></ul> 

SCHEDULE &amp; RATE OF PAY:<ul><li>
Monday-Friday 7:30am-2:30pm</li><li>
$50,000-$64,000 per year</li><li>
Actual pay is determined based on a number of job-related factors including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, performance, and working conditions.</li></ul>

Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with the school&rsquo;s Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Plans (PBIS).</li><li>
Use technology to assist in developing, providing and supporting instruction for special education students.</li><li>
