<div><p><b>PURPOSE: </b>The Phlebotomist demonstrates knowledge and skill in using the proper technique in collecting blood samples by capillary or venipuncture. Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection and maintains specimen integrity.<br>
</p><p></p><p><b>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
</b></p><ul><li>Ability to provide excellent customer service, possess strong written and oral communications skills.
</li><li>Collects and prepares various body fluids for a variety of tests as directed by physician and governed by established procedures.
</li><li>Obtains blood specimens and collects non-blood specimens such as urine, sputum, and throat swabs for laboratory testing
</li><li>Checks the test requisition to ensure correctness and completeness prior to collecting samples
</li><li>Ensures that specimen requirements are met at the time of collection and maintains specimen integrity
</li><li>Performs records and interprets quality control measures to assure accurate test results.
</li><li>Performs prescribed and scheduled equipment maintenance on laboratory equipment to ensure efficient operation.
</li><li>Must be able to route and file laboratory reports according to established procedures.
</li><li>Monitor an environment of continuous quality improvement
</li><li>Self-motivated and self-sufficient
</li><li>Contributes to the general laboratory functions and institutional needs
</li><li>Maintains compliance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures, as well as safety practices
</li><li>Keeps work area neat and clean, and restocks daily supplies
</li><li>Ability to represent Clara Barton Hospital and Rural Health Clinics in a positive and professional manner
</li><li>Perform all other tasks as may be assigned.</li></ul></div>
<br><div><p><b>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCY:
</b></p><ul><li>High School education or the equivalent
</li><li>Previous experience or education in a health-related field helpful
</li><li>Phlebotomy certification required after 6 months of employment
</li><li>Knowledge of medical terminology and certification for CPR preferred
</li><li>Ability to multi-task and set priorities with strong analytical skills essential.
</li><li>Must maintain a safe and infection-free environment with infection control procedures followed
</li><li>Must have excellent verbal communication skills and represent positive work environment is maintained
</li><li>Strong planning and organizational skills with computer basics.
</li><li>Must have test results accurately documented to comply with accepted standards</li></ul></div>
