The Clay County Prosecuting Attorney&rsquo;s Office is seeking a highly skilled Paralegal to support our legal team in the pursuit of public safety and justice. This role is essential to the litigation process, requiring a professional capable of drafting complex legal charging documents, managing critical case evidence, and serving as a key liaison between law enforcement, victims, and the court.
Key Responsibilities<ul><li>
Legal Documentation: Type and prepare charging documents (Complaints, Information, Indictments), legal motions, suggestions, pleadings, and subpoenas. Ensure terminology aligns with Missouri Approved Charges.</li><li>
Case Management: Expertly navigate Karpel and Casenet to monitor warrants, probation violations, and court notifications.</li><li>
Discovery &amp; Redaction: Collate reports and evidence for trial preparation; redact documents in strict accordance with OSCA rules and regulations.</li><li>
Financial &amp; Restitution Management: Process money orders/checks within the Criminal Restitution system and manage weekly deposits.</li><li>
Agency Liaison: Serve as a primary point of contact for local, State, and Federal law enforcement agencies regarding filed cases and evidence.</li><li>
Administrative Support: Maintain complex filing systems, screen phone calls, assist visitors, and manage general scheduling for Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys.</li></ul>
What You Bring<ul><li>
Expertise: Deep knowledge of legal vocabulary, Circuit Court procedures, and the preparation of legal documents.</li><li>
Technical Skill: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Karpel, and Casenet. High typing speed and accuracy are required.</li><li>
Communication: Ability to deal tactfully and professionally with victims or defendants who may be under significant stress.</li><li>
Judgment: Excellent discretion regarding confidential case information and the ability to prioritize work in a high-pressure environment.</li></ul>
Qualifications<ul><li>
Education: High school diploma or GED with specialized coursework in general office practices or bookkeeping.</li><li>
Experience: At least three (3) years of prior experience in law research and the preparation of legal documents.</li><li>
Background: Must submit to and pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.</li><li>
Physical: Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and perform standard office tasks (sitting, kneeling, reaching).</li></ul>

Paralegal

<div>The Clay County Prosecuting Attorney&rsquo;s Office is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Victim Advocate to provide critical support and guidance to victims and witnesses navigating the criminal justice system. You will serve as the primary liaison between victims and the office, ensuring their interests are represented and they are fully informed through every stage of the legal process.
Key Responsibilities<ul><li>
Advocacy &amp; Support: Provide crisis intervention and general support to victims; accompany victims and witnesses to court proceedings and trials.</li><li>
Case Liaison: Act as the primary office contact for victims/witnesses, notifying them of hearing dates, case progress, and final dispositions.</li><li>
Trial Preparation: Prepare victims to testify, coordinate witness appearances for jury trials, and advise them on probable lines of questioning from attorneys.</li><li>
Resource Coordination: Assist victims with filing for Missouri Crime Victims Compensation and refer them to appropriate community agencies for counseling or housing.</li><li>
Documentation: Maintain thorough case documentation and statistical records using automated case management systems.</li><li>
Safety Planning: Monitor and report instances of victim intimidation or harassment to law enforcement and the prosecutor's office.</li></ul>
What You Bring<ul><li>
Empathy &amp; Professionalism: Skill in interviewing and eliciting information from individuals experiencing significant stress or trauma.</li><li>
Technical Proficiency: Ability to manage databases, prepare spreadsheets, and utilize case management software.</li><li>
Knowledge: Familiarity with Missouri statutes regarding victim rights, legal terminology, and crisis intervention techniques.</li></ul>
Qualifications<ul><li>
Education: Associate&rsquo;s Degree from an accredited college or university.</li><li>
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in human services delivery or a related field.</li><li>
Certification: Must possess a Victim Advocate Certificate or have completed a victim advocacy training program.</li><li>
Background: Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.</li></ul>
