Job Description:
REQUIREMENTS:<ul><li>
Must be willing to work in all four CCC Medical Oncology offices (Myrtle Beach, Conway, Loris and Murrells Inlet)</li><li>
Must have national certification as phlebotomy techniican</li></ul>
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.<ul><li>
Adheres to the department policy, time, and attendance guidelines.</li><li>
Wears employee ID badge and follows dress code policy.</li><li>
Collection of specimens using proper venipuncture or fingerstick technique.</li><li>
Monitoring and recording of environmental conditions as required by CLIA.</li><li>
Obtain vitals and records in patient&rsquo;s medical record.</li><li>
Tests specimens for hematology, urine dipsticks, sedimentation rates, blood, and INR.</li><li>
Accurate recording of results.</li><li>
Orders laboratory tests appropriately, to include in house, send out, and reference labs.</li><li>
Processes specimens.</li><li>
Properly uses centrifuge.</li><li>
Assists provider and patient during bone marrow biopsy &ndash; preparation, collection, processing, and packaging.</li><li>
Facilitates office flow by preparing patients for office visits, chemotherapy, or shots, taking vital signs, and accompanying patients to their next treatment area.</li><li>
Consults physician regarding questionable laboratory results, and acts on physician instructions regarding patient care.</li><li>
Complies with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the clinical laboratory.</li><li>
Performs routine maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting of hematology analyzer, including calibrations as required.</li><li>
Responsible to check inbox and add-on testing.</li><li>
Orders and restocks all laboratory supplies.</li><li>
Keeps lab neat, clean, and stocked at all times.</li><li>
Tracks patients to next point of service.</li><li>
Participates in continuing education activities.</li><li>
Attends staff meetings.</li></ul>
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
<ul><li>High school or equivalent.</li><li>
National certification as a phlebotomy technician.</li></ul>
Experience: Two (2) years of medical experience in phlebotomy.
KNOWLEDGE:<ul><li>
Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform routine laboratory tests.</li><li>
Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to operate, clean and sterilize.</li><li>
Knowledge of appropriate medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff.</li><li>
Knowledge of CLIA regulations, diagnosis coding, and Medicare policy as they pertain to the laboratory.</li></ul>
SKILLS:<ul><li>
Skill in operating a variety of laboratory instrumentation.</li><li>
Skill in preparing accurate reports concerning the results of laboratory tests.</li><li>
Skill in reacting calmly to emergency situations.</li></ul>
ABILITIES:<ul><li>
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, patients, employees, and the public.</li><li>
Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.</li><li>
Ability to follow written protocols.</li><li>
Ability to work independently.</li><li>
Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.</li></ul>
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:<ul><li>

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, as experienced in a medical setting/practice.</li><li>
The employee must occasionally lift and or move 40 to 50 pounds or more frequently lift and/or move up to 20 to 25 pounds.</li><li>
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.</li></ul>
