About the role</b></h1>
<p>
Cognite's European Delivery organisation is growing in both scale and technical ambition. As Manager of Data Engineering, you will lead, develop, and retain a team of Data Engineers operating across some of the most complex industrial AI engagements in the market &mdash; ensuring they are technically strong, professionally developed, and set up to deliver at the standard our customers expect.</p>

This is not a pure people management role. You will carry a meaningful delivery commitment &mdash; approximately 50% billable capacity &mdash; working on customer projects alongside your team. Your credibility as a manager depends on being a practitioner: you need to understand the work at depth in order to coach it, assess it, and<br>
raise the bar on it.</p>

You will be part of the Value Delivery (VD) Europe profession leadership team and work closely with Portfolio Managers, and cross-functional leaders across Value Delivery.</p>

<li>Review Statements of Work (SOWs) before your engineers are committed to them: assess scope fit, identify skill gaps, and flag delivery risks before they become customer problems.</li>
<li>Champion your team's interests in staffing decisions &mdash; actively match engineers to engagements where they can deliver and grow, not just where there is a vacancy to fill.</li>
<li>Act as an escalation point when delivery gets hard. Be the steady hand, not a passive observer.</li>

<li>Proven hands-on data engineering background &mdash; production-grade Python, SQL, REST APIs, and cloud-native pipeline development. You must be able to review your team's technical work and have credible technical conversations with customers.</li>
<li>At least one year of meaningful association with Cognite's platform and products, with direct delivery experience on customer engagements. External candidates will not be considered for this role.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to develop people &mdash; not just manage tasks. You have concrete examples of engineers you have helped grow, with specific feedback that changed how they work.</li>
<li>Customer-facing confidence: you can hold a technical conversation with a senior customer stakeholder, translate engineering decisions into business language, and manage expectations under pressure.</li>
<li>Strong operational judgement: you can read a SOW, spot a risk, and have a difficult conversation about scope before it becomes a delivery failure.</li>

Required Qualifications:</b></h4>
<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Business, or related fields.</li>
<li>Prior experience within Software Industry is required.</li>
<li>Ability to travel upto 25% for client engagements.</li>
<li>5+ years or more of project management experience, in SaaS, cloud, or enterprise software delivery preferably with a portfolio of successful, complex industrial or enterprise-level IT/AI projects.</li>
<li>Experience with SaaS implementation lifecycle, including onboarding, training, and change management</li>
<li>Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder projects in fast-paced environments and experience leading cross-functional teams (Data Scientists, Engineers, Solution Architects).</li>
<li>Deep proficiency in industrial verticals (e.g., Energy, Manufacturing, Chemicals, Oil &amp; Gas, Life Science, Utilities/Power and Renewables).</li>
<li>Strong financial acumen and proficiency in tracking project realization/forecasting.</li>
<li>Methodology Fluency: Demonstrated practical knowledge of Agile/Scrum and experience leveraging PMO methodologies (like PMP/PRINCE2) to drive delivery efficiency and manage risk in fast-paced environments.</li>

Required qualifications</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Extensive experience (5+ years) in solution architecture, field engineering, or technical presales/postsales roles, ideally in enterprise SaaS, cloud platforms, or industrial software.</li>
<li>Hands-on in Python, as well as good hands-on expertise with software development best practices.</li>
<li>Strong client-facing skills, with experience building trusted relationships with technology partners, enterprise clients, and internal stakeholders to co-create solutions and drive joint opportunities.</li>
<li>Expertise in industrial data, OT/IT convergence, and data integration patterns, with the ability to design scalable architectures that connect operational and enterprise systems.</li>
<li>Good understanding of data platforms, APIs, and integration methods, including data pipelines, storage, security, and governance &mdash; particularly in cloud and hybrid environments.</li>

The <b>Data Science team</b> at Cognite plays a crucial role in building data-driven solutions that empower our clients to make impactful business decisions. As a <b>Senior</b> <b>Data Scientist</b> at Cognite, you will work on challenging data-problems with leaders in the industry. You will be a part of cross-functional teams that include data engineers, solution architects, and project managers. Together, your focus will be on configuring, deploying, and operationalizing digital solutions in sectors such as <b>Oil and Gas, Power &amp; Utilities, and Manufacturing. </b>Additionally, you will engage with clients to understand their desired outcomes, lead discovery workshops, and provide insights on potential strategies and obstacles.</p>

<li>Develop and deploy scalable solutions for customer use cases from Oil and Gas, Manufacturing and Power &amp; Utilities industries using Cognite's core capabilities</li>

<li><b>5+ years of full-time work experience as a data scientist (prefarbly within related industry)</b>, or data scientist with domain expertise in Energy &amp; Oil and Gas or Maintenance or Manufacturing</li>
<li>Proficient experience with Python and SQL. Experience with Python in a production setting is a plus</li>
<li>Experience with machine learning methods and techniques, statistics and/or optimisation</li>
<li>Experience with Git</li>
<li>Experience working customer faced, with external customers</li>
<li>Experience with managed cloud services such as GCP, Azure or AWS is a plus</li>
<li>Domain knowledge or a good understanding of the Oil and Gas industry Asset Performance Management - covering i.e production optimization is a big plus.
