Position Description
The Clinical Coordinator, in cooperation with the Surgical Technology Program Director, will provide a safe and educational experience for the students in the clinical setting. The clinical coordinator will also act as a liaison between clinical sites and the college, secure new clinical sites, and be a resource for the clinical site instructors.
Organizational Relationships:
Clinical Coordinator works closely with the Surgical Technology Program Director, hospital staff and administration, and students.
Responsibilities:
Fall Semester with Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing Students:
<ul><li>Teach and test the lab competencies to all students in both programs.
</li><li>Maintain necessary stock of supplies for both Las Vegas and Reno clinical labs.
</li><li>Teach online didactic portion of Sterile Processing program.
</li><li>Coordinate time for student orientations at clinical sites.
</li><li>Coordinate time for badging of all students for clinical sites.
</li><li>Ensure the following documents are in order prior to spring semester.
</li><li>Background checks completed and filed with clinical sites.
</li><li>Immunization records filed with clinical sites.
</li><li>Any other documentation required by clinical sites.
</li><li>Coordinate operating room observation during fall semester
</li><li>conduct observations.
</li><li>Coordinate time for a tour of the operating room.
</li><li>Participate in tour of operating room.
</li><li>Ensure clinical site affiliation agreements are up to date.
</li><li>Attempt to secure additional clinical sites.
</li><li>Make student assignments to clinical sites for the spring semester.
</li><li>Other duties as assigned by Director.
</li></ul>Spring Semester:
<ul><li>Teach and test lab competencies for the Sterile Processing students.
</li><li>Teach online didactic portion of the Sterile Processing program.
</li><li>Ensure all documentation is in order for prior to (Spring Semester) Sterile Processing students attending clinical rotation.
</li><li>Gain and maintain a good relationship between CSN and clinical sites.
</li><li>Be a resource for clinical instructors.
</li><li>Consult with Surgical Technology Program Director as needed.
</li><li>Implement changes to improve current processes and experiences.
</li><li>Seek out additional clinical sites.
</li><li>Act as clinical instructor at assigned clinical site.
</li></ul>Summer Semester:
<ul><li>Act as clinical instructor at assigned clinical site.
</li><li>Gain and maintain a good relationship between CSN and clinical sites.
</li><li>Be a resource for clinical instructors.

</li></ul>Additional Duties and Expectations:
<ul><li>Participate in continuing education seminars and in professional development opportunities in order to maintain current state-of-the-art knowledge and skills.
</li><li>Exhibits professional behavior and serves as a role model for students.
</li><li>Makes himself/herself available for students&rsquo; and instructors&rsquo; questions and learning needs.
</li><li>Report any missed time and/or day(s) immediately to the Surgical Technology Program Director.
</li><li>Check your CSN email on a weekly basis.
</li><li>Grade assignments in a timely manner.
</li><li>Input grades in CANVAS in a timely manner.
</li><li>Meeting all classes/clinical externships at the time, place and length of time contracted.
</li><li>Teaching courses as assigned which correlate with the catalog descriptions and course outlines in a manner designed to assist the student to achieve the specific objectives of the course.
</li></ul>Provide each student with a course outline at the beginning of each course, which may include the following information:
<ul><li>The goals, objectives, and content for the course of study.
</li><li>Required and supplementary textbooks to be used.
</li><li>Attendance requirements.
</li><li>Behavior and discipline requirements.
</li><li>Planned schedule of examinations, field trips or other special activities.
</li><li>Out-of-class assignment policy.
</li><li>Method of evaluating student process toward an achievement of course goals and objectives, including the method by which the final grade is derived.
</li><li>Information about office hour availability and appointment procedures.
</li><li>Other information, which advises students of those requirements established by the instructor and Surgical Technology Program. Director for meeting the course objectives.
</li><li>Other duties as assigned by the Surgical Technology Director.
</li></ul>Required Qualifications
<ul><li>The Surgical Technology Program Clinical Coordinator must meet the qualifications as
 
set forth by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and
 
Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).
</li><li>Hold a current CST or CFA (Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified First Assistant).
</li><li>Minimum of three [3] years of experience in the operating room in the scrub role or three
 
[3] years of current experience as an instructor of surgical technology or a combination of both.
</li></ul>Preferred Qualifications
<ul><li>At least one year of experience teaching at a community college.
</li><li>Experience with curriculum development.
</li><li>Experience teaching online courses.
</li><li>Experience teaching and/or working with diverse student and staff populations.
</li><li>Experience developing and implementing field trips for undergraduates to local/regional areas of interest.
</li></ul>Starting Salary Information
Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master&rsquo;s degree the salary range would be $58,046 to $74,304 annually. The entire salary range is up to $89,166 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years&rsquo; experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
<ul><li>This position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding.
</li></ul>Bargaining unit Faculty members hired are eligible for relocation expenses reimbursement in accordance with the College of Southern Nevada NFA Contract 2022-2025 .
