<div>POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Center Supervisor, the Teacher plans, organizes, performs, directs, and assesses all work related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational programming for individual children and for classes of three- and four-year-old children at a CAFI Head Start center. All work is performed in accordance with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families: Head Start Performance Standards and Other Regulations, any state and local regulations, and CAFI Head Start Policies and Procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS<ul><li>
Establishes the classroom environment and systems including classroom arrangement, materials, supplies, and schedule.</li><li>
Conducts developmental and behavioral screenings; develops, implements, and evaluates individual learning plans for each child and the class curriculum.</li><li>
Plans, conducts, and evaluates educational parent home visits and conferences.</li><li>
Participates in the planning, implementing, and evaluating of parent activities.</li><li>
Participates in staffing with school systems and other agencies representing the educational interest of children.</li><li>
Maintains the safety of the environment and children using vision, auditory and smell input, and verbal and mobility related responses.</li><li>
Performs regular sanitation/cleaning of the classroom that may require the use of a broom, carpet sweeper, mop, vacuum, and the use of cleaning products.</li><li>
Understands that the confidentiality of all children and families is maintained and handles confidential and sensitive information regarding children, families, and staff in a professional manner exercising appropriate discretion in sharing the information.</li><li>
Observes, compares, monitors, and records data and childrens behavior to determine compliance with other prescribed standards.</li><li>
Models appropriate mealtime behavior that supports family style meal service.</li><li>
In collaboration with Parents, Teacher Assistants and Family Social Workers provides a comprehensive family service and early childhood education program that is appropriate and responsive to the needs and goals of the children and family.</li><li>
All other duties as assigned by Head Start Management</li></ul>
WORK ENVIRONMENT<ul><li>
This job operates in a clean, organized, and professional classroom environment.</li><li>
The Teacher is directly responsible to the Center Supervisor/County Manager who will evaluate the teacher annually in conjunction with the Educational Specialist.</li></ul>
PHYSICAL DEMANDS<ul><li>
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; kneel or sit on the floor; lift approximately 50 pounds; ride on a bus; and move quickly from multiple positions and levels.</li><li>

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK 
This is a full-time position, and days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., unless otherwise approved.
Must also attend staff meetings and scheduled mandatory trainings.
TRAVEL
May require frequent local travel, overnight travel, out of area travel.

QUALIFICATIONS<ul><li>
Minimum<ul><li>
Bachelors degree in early childhood education or a closely related educational field</li><li>
Experience working with children in a pre-school environment.</li><li>
Valid Drivers License</li></ul></li></ul>
SKILLS AND ABILITIES<ul><li>
Ability to pass a criminal history background check and submit to an initial physical drug screening and annual Tuberculin test.</li><li>
Ability to communicate in English (both verbally and in writing).</li><li>
Must be physically able to interact with preschool age children.</li><li>
Must have strong verbal organizational, and interpersonal skills.</li><li>
Must demonstrate a working and theoretical knowledge of child development, classroom and behavioral management.</li><li>
Must demonstrate a working and theoretical knowledge of developmentally appropriate curriculum, language/literacy development, individualized learning systems for children, and the transition process from Head Start to public schools.</li><li>
Must incorporate the concepts of health and safety, diversity, language/literacy, numeracy, and multi-cultural concepts daily into the learning environment.</li><li>
Must exhibit an understanding of the importance of parents and parent partnership in the childs learning process.</li><li>
Must be knowledgeable of child abuse and neglect indicators and report suspected child abuse according to state regulation.</li><li>
Must Maintain a current CPR and First Aid certificate.</li></ul>
