<b>MISSION:</b><br>
Helping Central Texas improve economic self-reliance through a wide range of services and community partnerships.<br>
<br>
<b>STRATEGIC FUNCTION:</b><br>
Assists the cook in the preparation of food, serving, and clean up. They will assist in providing nourishing and attractive meals that are served to Early Head Start and Head Start children, families, and staff. In addition, they are expected to conduct their job in a way that complies with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Head Start Standards, Texas Child Care Licensing Standards, Texas Food Establishment and city health departments.<br>

<b>DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES</b><br>
<b>May include the following:</b></div>
<div><ul><li>Help ensure food service is running on time by assisting cook in daily activities such as pouring milks, setting out clean dishes/utensils, plating, etc.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Help with delivery of meals/carts to classrooms. Help pick up carts and waste from classrooms.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Wash and sanitize dishes used daily. Clean and sanitize work areas daily.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Responsible for preparing food for three meals a day in the event a Cook is unable to do so.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Prepare snack, if needed.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assist center staff in serving breakfast to children who arrive late.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Prepare silverware and dishes at end of shift for next day.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Go grocery shopping with cook, as needed.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Do general cleaning following the cleaning schedule.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Perform all necessary kitchen duties of a cook in their absence, if needed.</li></ul>
<ul><li>No jewelry may be worn at any time, with the exception of one solid band on finger.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Adhere to the appropriate Dress Code Policy.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Interact with staff, volunteers, and visitors in a pleasant, effective, and respectful manner.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Fingernail polish will not be worn and nails must be kept short, clean, neat. No artificial nails.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Gloves will be worn during times that hands are cut, scratched or bandaged.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Wear a hairnet at all times and keep supply on hand for other kitchen staff and volunteers.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Report all suspected child abuse to the Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 and adhere to agency policy.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Arrive on time and work designated hours.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Participate in center meetings, workshops, in service training, as assigned and make use of all personal and professional growth opportunities as assigned.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Assist cook in accommodating children with special diets.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Flexibility with work schedule and location as needed based on program needs.</li></ul>

<b>REQUIREMENT/QUALIFICATIONS</b><br>
<b>Preferred:</b></div>
<ul><li>High School Diploma or GED</li>
<li>One-year experience in food service</li>
</ul><div><b>Required:</b></div>
<ul><li>Must be able to follow the daily planned menu</li>
<li>Must be able to work well with others</li>
</ul><div><b>Physical Requirements:</b></div>
<ul><li>Be able to lift 40 pounds</li>
<li>Be able to see, hear and speak in order to assist and communicate with coworkers</li>
<li>Be able to bend, squat and reach in order to place foods in oven, supplies on shelves, etc.</li>
<li>Be able to push a utility cart with a weight of 40 pounds</li>
<li>Be able to stand or substantial amounts of time in order to assist in food service responsibilities</li>
<li>Be able to handle repetitive tasks such as chopping, stirring, putting food items away, etc.</li>
<li>Be able to handle a medium mop and mop bucket</li>
</ul><div><b>Other Requirements:</b></div>
<ul><li>At least 18 years old.</li>
<li>Initial Health Exam required for all Head Start staff at the agency's expense.</li>
<li>Valid Texas Driver's License</li>
<li>Daily Access to a Vehicle</li>
<li>Vehicle liability insurance</li>
<li>Criminal Background Check required for all Head Start staff at the agency's expense.</li>
<li>Fingerprinting required for all Head Start staff at the employee's expense.</li>
<li>Initial and annual TB screening are required for all Head Start staff at the agency's expense.</li></ul></div>
