Position: Teacher
Program and Location: Early Head Start, Kearney &ndash; Toddler Room (18m to 3yrs)
Position Summary: The Teacher is responsible for direct contact with infants/toddlers in the classroom, providing developmentally appropriate activities on a daily basis, challenging them at their level, and encouraging success for all students. The Teacher also provides through experiences and opportunities, the ability for children to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving, skills and creativity.
Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Provide experiences and opportunities, the ability for children to develop curiosity, initiative, problem-solving, skills and creativity, as well as a sense of self and feeling of belonging to the group.</li><li>
Ensure implementation of curriculum which includes active learning and practices that are developmentally appropriate.</li><li>
Ensure initial and mid-year home visits, along with two parent/staff conferences are complete.</li><li>
Ensure classroom management and lesson planning/implementation.</li><li>
Ensure implementation of oral health practices.</li><li>
Be actively engaged in all Early Head Start activities and model appropriate behavior.</li></ul>
Tasks and Duties:<ul><li>
Track daily attendance.</li><li>
Ensure completion of developmental and social emotional screenings.</li><li>
Ensure speech screenings and child growth assessments are completed.</li><li>
Ensure the playground is a safe environment.</li><li>
Attend annual center open house.</li><li>
Assist with updateing center inventory annually.</li></ul>
Education Requirements:<ul><li>
Minimum requirement is a Child Development Associate (CDA).</li><li>
Individuals who have a minimum of a High School Diploma and commit to obtaining a CDA (Child Development Associate) may be considered.</li><li>
Additional compensation is available for candidates with an Associate&rsquo;s or Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.</li></ul>
Required Skills:<ul><li>
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Early Head Start families, other agency employees and the general public.</li><li>
Ability to provide leadership to classroom staff, parents/guardians and classroom volunteers.</li><li>
Model appropriate and professional behavior.</li><li>
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team</li><li>
Excellent communication skills.</li></ul>
Schedule/Hours: 40 hours per week. This position is scheduled for the full year. Scheduled hours are generally between 7:30 am &ndash; 3:30 pm, Monday-Friday. There may be occasional afternoon events, which are scheduled in advance.
Pay Rate $18.00 - $25.00 per hour. Starting wage will depend on education and experience. Individuals who have a minimum of a High School Diploma and commit to obtaining a CDA (Child Development Associate), would start as a Teacher Assistant at an entry wage of $16.00. Additional compensation is available once the CDA process begins and is completed.
