<div>Primary function:
To provide acute and chronic care to patients in the clinic setting as defined in the Collaborative Practice Agreement and the Missouri Nursing Practice Act. Services include but are not limited to ordering, conducting, and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies and other duties as assigned and delegated through the existing Collaborative Agreement.
Duties and responsibilities<ul><li>
Performs comprehensive physical exams in an efficient and effective manner.</li></ul><ul><li>
Administers and performs age-appropriate patient assessment in accordance with the applicable patient type.</li><li>
Evaluates patient utilizing the guidelines of approved resources.</li><li>
Assesses patient using both subjective data (patient&rsquo;s story or words) plus objective data (physical exam) and uses clinical judgment and knowledge in obtaining a medical diagnosis and develops a plan of care such as meds, therapy, or other interventions to treat the diagnosis.</li><li>
Consults with the physician as needed or practices as per guidelines and within the scope of position.</li><li>
Evaluates, diagnoses, and provide appropriate treatment for health problems of patients.</li></ul><ul><li>
Provides stabilizing treatment for the patient in case of emergency while determining the appropriate disposition.</li><li>
Advises and collaborates with the physician prior to admitting a patient to special observation or acute care level of care as necessary.</li><li>
Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.</li><li>
Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment.</li><li>
Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain health.</li><li>
Performs therapeutic procedures.</li><li>
Facilitates patient transition between health care settings.</li><li>
Teaches and counsels patients about health and illness providing medical information as needed.</li><li>
Initiates emergency care in an effective and responsive manner as each situation requires.</li></ul><ul><li>
Responds to emergencies to provide emergency resuscitation and management. pending the arrival of EMS.</li><li>
Administers and performs emergent care in accordance with the applicable patient population type which may range from newborn to geriatric.</li><li>
Follows standards of BLS, ACLS, PALS interventions as needed.</li><li>
Follows emergency policies, procedures, and protocols in an effective manner.</li><li>
Collaborates with Medical Staff, management, and other health care team members to coordinate patient care.</li></ul><ul><li>
Works effectively with ancillary areas as part of the team approach to patient care.</li><li>
Directs staff team members professionally and appropriately.</li><li>
Promotes team concept through effective communication regarding patient condition and medical care plan.</li><li>
Informs and involves director regarding patient care issues in a timely and appropriate manner.</li><li>
Acts as a resource person for staff providing education and guidance.</li><li>
May complete case reviews with collaborating physician to maintain professional growth and development. Provides a list of patients seen to collaborating physician for review of record as required by law.</li><li>
Participates in departmental operations and organizational functions.</li></ul><ul><li>
Assists in development and review of hospital clinic policies and procedures.</li><li>
Assists with orientation of new staff and/or students.</li><li>
Participates in Performance Improvement projects, chart audits, and committees as assigned.</li><li>
Maintains and performs all patient related documentation in a timely, factual, and legible manner.</li></ul><ul><li>
Utilizes only approved abbreviations in all documentation.</li><li>
Follows all policies and procedures related to the documentation requirements.</li><li>
Ensures that documentation reflects information needed to complete coding and billing processes of professional services.</li><li>
Promotes and ensures patient safety in all aspects of responsibilities.</li></ul><ul><li>
Follows procedures and protocol to ensure safe administration of medications and monitoring for adverse effects.</li><li>
Follows procedures for maintaining records for medication dispensing, controlled substance administration, wasting, and accountability records.</li><li>
Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer//lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.</li><li>
Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves.</li><li>
Follows proper procedures for disposal of sharps and hazardous materials.</li><li>
All other duties as assigned</li></ul>
Qualifications
Qualifications include:<ul><li>
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and an accredited Master&rsquo;s Nursing Program (for graduates after 1993 only).</li><li>
Current State of Missouri RN License; BLS required; preferred PALS. If required certifications are not current upon hire, must complete within six months.</li><li>
Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a designated Nurse Practitioner, i.e. Family N.P.</li><li>
Family practice background preferred.</li></ul>
Working conditions
Are exposed to Diseases and infections daily. Regularly wear surgical gloves and masks to protect self. You will come into close physical contact with patients during examinations. Make decisions on a daily basis that substantially impact patients and their families.
Physical requirements
This position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching as well as lifting up to 50 lbs., and supporting patients.</div>
