Position Specifics</b></h2><p>
The Pipe Welder is responsible for welding of various piping systems, sizes, and materials onboard ships; work in confined spaces and tight areas; assist pipefitter with fit up and installation of various piping systems and sizes.; must be familiar with the requirements of welding high pressure piping systems (using and understanding PCP&rsquo;s); work from details, references, drawings, and specifications to ensure that final product meet quality requirements.</p><ul><li>

Evaluates blueprints, schematic drawings and job specifications to determine work demands.</li><li>
Operates cutting torches, straightening presses and hand tools to redesign, reshape, and dismantle components and parts.</li><li>
Assemble and install metal pipes and pipe fittings for stainless and carbon steel projects.</li><li>
Removes slags and rough spots from workpieces by operating grinders or scrapers to ensure smooth work surface.</li><li>
Employs their knowledge of metallurgy to determine materials and equipment most suitable for a welding project.</li><li>
Cleans and prepares workpieces using chemical solutions etc. to remove foreign matter such as grease, rust etc.</li><li>
Ensures the proper set up of tools, welding equipment, and gases.</li><li>
Accomplishes all required stages of welding, burning, etc.</li><li>
Assists pipefitters in the installation of pipe.</li><li>
Ensures daily clean-up of work site at end of each shift.</li><li>
Performs other related duties as assigned.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Minimum Requirements</b></h2><ul><li>
Demonstrated knowledge of welding procedures, various types of welding equipment, proficient in flat, vertical, overhead, and horizontal welding; GTAW welding and air-arc skills.</li><li>
The ability to read and understand basic work specs, drawings, and diagrams.</li><li>
Demonstrated knowledge of ship board piping systems.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to identify different piping systems based off of abbreviations commonly used onboard the ship.</li><li>
Demonstrated knowledge of MIL-STD-22D and NSTP-278.</li><li>
Demonstrated welding capability encompassing C/S (carbon-steel) pipe and CuNi (copper-nickel) test in all 6G positions, must be able to acquire certification to operate high reaching equipment.</li><li>
Maintains fire-watch qualification.</li><li>
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.</li><li>
Three (3) years&rsquo; experience in welding or completion of welding school.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Physical Requirements</b></h2><ul><li>
Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Shop, shipboard, warehouse, industrial environment.</li><li>
May be exposed to fumes and irritants including welding/burning fumes, paints, oils, greases and various cleaning solutions and solvents, noise, high heat and humidity hazards while wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).</li><li>
Frequently moves throughout the shipyard.</li><li>
Work at heights and in confined spaces.</li><li>
Must be able to ascend/descend stairs/ladders/ramps, aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.</li><li>
Must be able to move heavy equipment and boxes, weighing up to 40 pounds.</li><li>
May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams.</li></ul><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>

Position Specifics</b></h2><p>
The Pipefitter is responsible for proper removal, and/or installation of various piping systems. This includes cutting, grinding, and prepping multiple sizes and material types of pipe. The Pipefitter must have the ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, and have an understanding of the different joint designs IAW with MIL-STD -22D, and basic knowledge of MIL-STD-777F, and NSTP-278. In addition the Pipefitter must be able to obtain a Silver Braze certification, and have a general knowledge of the hazards associated with opening tanks and voids, including the installation of proper blanks and plugs to obtain Gas Free status. The Pipefitter must also have the ability to accomplish all required testing (hydrostatic,operational, etc.) IAW shipboard procedures.</p><ul><li>

Maintains records, including safety logs and inspection details.</li><li>
Targets piping in shop for re-installation onboard the ship.</li><li>
Ensures daily clean-up of work site at end of each day.</li><li>

Minimum Requirements</b></h2><ul><li>

Demonstrated ability to identify different piping systems based off of abbreviations commonly used onboard the ship.</li><li>
Demonstrated understanding of TAC numbers used to identify locations throughout the ship.</li><li>
Maintains a silver braze qualification for CuNi (copper-nickel) piping systems onboard ships.</li><li>
Maintains fire-watch qualification.</li><li>
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.</li><li>
