Job Summary: In the absence of a full-time classroom teacher, the substitute teacher provides instruction and manages the learning environment. In short-term situations, the substitute is responsible for following the lesson that has been planned by the teacher. In long-term situations, the substitute is responsible for planning for daily instruction, assessing students, grading, and communicating with families. If a teacher is absent for an extended period of time, the substitute may be provided with a detailed plan from the teacher that will guide them in terms of the content and skills that will need to be taught.Primary Responsibilities: <ul><li>Maintains regular availability to cover absences at various schools in order to remain active in the District&rsquo;s substitute pool.</li><li>Teaches the lesson as prepared by the full-time classroom teacher, in accordance with the District&rsquo;s curriculum and in a manner that the students understand.</li><li>Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.</li><li>Appropriately utilizes the District&rsquo;s instructional and technology resources, materials, and equipment as directed by the full-time classroom teacher.</li><li>Maintains a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.</li><li>Maintains established routines, schedules, and procedures of the school and the classroom to which they are assigned, including:</li><li>Taking student attendance;</li><li>Monitoring and managing student behavior; and</li><li>Ensuring that the classroom is clean and safe</li><li>Performs related duties of the full-time teacher, including;</li><li>Lunchroom duty;</li><li>Hall duty;</li><li>Bus duty; and</li><li>Recess duty.</li><li>Substitutes covering for a full-time teacher who will be absent for an extended period of time are responsible for:</li><li>Attending faculty meetings, grade level team meetings, and in-service trainings;</li><li>Developing lesson plans and student assessments per the long-term plan provided by the full-time teacher;</li><li>Collaborating with other instructional staff, including social workers, counselors, speech language pathologists, and special education teachers;</li><li>Grading student work, entering grades in the online gradebook, and issuing progress reports and final quarter grades;</li><li>Communicating with parents/guardians as needed; and</li><li>Conducting parent teacher conferences.</li></ul>Qualifications:<ul><li>Current and valid State of Illinois substitute teaching license.</li><li>Ability to follow and implement lesson plans or long-term instructional plans left by the classroom teacher.</li><li>Ability to follow written and verbal directions.</li><li>Flexibility in terms of being open to working in a variety of classroom settings, including pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.</li><li>Strong verbal and written communication skills.</li><li>Patience and willingness to work with students from diverse backgrounds.</li><li>Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.</li></ul>Salary: <ul><li>$150 per day.</li><li>$165 per day after working ten days in the District.</li><li>$210 per day for a long-term assignment necessitated by a leave of absence or an open position.</li></ul>Working Conditions: <ul><li>Pre-K &ndash; Grade 5 hours: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.</li><li>Middle School hours: 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.</li></ul>Job Type: Full-timePay: $150.00 per dayBenefits:<ul><li>Flexible schedule</li></ul>Work Location: In person
