The Department
The K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations conducts research and provides continuing education and technical assistance on many aspects of disability in the workplace. 
Researchers and practitioners at the Yang-Tan Institute (YTI) have helped companies, labor organizations, government agencies, schools, and communities throughout the United States and abroad to accommodate and integrate individuals with disabilities. Our team consults with business and industry, and with policy makers, educators, disability advocates, and rehabilitation practitioners. YTI contributes to developing inclusive workplace systems and communities in a variety of ways. 
The Opportunity
The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Temporary Research Support - SP position in the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability (YTI) in the Extension/Outreach Division. 
This part-time 50% position will provide quantitative research and program evaluation support for externally funded research and evaluation projects in the ILR School K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability (YTI). 
This position is primarily responsible for supporting research and program evaluation associated with federal- and state-sponsored projects. The incumbent will support elements of projects pertaining to research and evaluation, including in depth literature reviews, protocol and instrument design, assigning tasks to students, determining timelines, data collection and analysis, and developing dissemination materials. The individual will also provide consultation to YTI projects including, but not limited to school-to-work transition (for youth with disabilities), employer disability best practices, employment and disability policy, and other outreach, extension and community education-related projects. 
This position is located in Ithaca, NY, within the ILR School on the campus of Cornell University, working hybrid campus to home schedule. 
This is a temporary, part-time position with an appointment through September 30, 2026. 
 
We are seeking people who appreciate and will take ownership in the following, and not limited to:<ul><li>
Coordinating research activities</li><li>
collaborating on research/evaluation design and implementation</li><li>
managing and analyzing data from multiple sources (including interviews, focus groups, surveys)</li><li>
assisting in the preparation of research/evaluation reports and manuscripts for publication</li><li>
communicating research and evaluation findings to stakeholders</li><li>
preparing and presenting presentations for conferences and periodic training</li><li>
translating research findings into practitioner-friendly documents/resources</li><li>
contributing to unit-wide and specific project discussions on research/evaluation approaches collaborating on development of training and informational materials</li></ul>
We require these qualifications:<ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree and two to three years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.</li><li>
Quantitative and qualitative research skills including the capability to create surveys and survey tools, analyze data, generate visuals, and write reports based on data collection.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to collect data using standardized instruments and contribute to statistical data analysis.</li><li>
Demonstrated ability to write research reports/manuscripts for publication using appropriate style guides (e.g. APA).</li><li>
Extensive experience with writing and editing documents and research reports for publication.</li><li>
Ability to prepare presentations, create slides, and craft documents for educational programs and trainings.</li><li>
Experience in translating research/evaluation for a general audience.</li><li>
Experience with literature reviews including conducting internet and library database searches.</li><li>
Must be able to manage multiple competing deadlines and be flexible with changing work priorities.</li><li>
Capable of working independently for long stretches of time with limited supervision.</li><li>
Capable of working in a collaborative environment.</li><li>
Excellent verbal, written, telephone and public presentation skills.</li><li>
Advanced experience with preparing, creating, and transforming academic citations in multiple formats such as APA.</li><li>
Experience and skill using different software packages and web-based tools (e.g., statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, or SAS), Microsoft Office, Zoom or videoconferencing software, library databases, and Qualtrics).</li><li>
Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing.</li><li>
Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.</li><li>

You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:<ul><li>
Master&rsquo;s degree in social science or applied research, rehabilitation counseling, special education, educational leadership, human resources, disability studies, program evaluation, or related discipline</li><li>
Four to five years of experience in a research and/or program evaluation environment</li><li>
Experience working in a team environment and providing collaborative input</li><li>
Familiarity with disability, rehabilitation, and/or health related policy, research, literature and national networks</li></ul>
Rate: $33.00 / hour

Position Function
This position requires a scientist with experience in fisheries and hydroacoustics surveys. The individual will use available and new data collected with active acoustics (sonar) in the Laurentian Great Lakes. Hydroacoustics is used worldwide in both marine and freshwater environments to estimate distribution and abundance of fish and larger invertebrates and Cornell is at the forefront of the application of these methods in lakes. We are now collecting data with automated systems using uncrewed drones that provide unprecedented data on fish and invertebrates in the Great Lakes. The individual we seek will work within an interactive research group consisting of Cornell and agency scientist. Specifically, the individual will: 
1) Analyze acoustic data with existing software (Echoview, R, Python).
2) Collaborate with USGS scientists on field data collections.
3) Investigate the spatial patterns of fish and invertebrates in the Great Lakes.
4) Present results at scientific meetings and to regional management groups and publish in the primary scientific literature. 
Anticipated Division of Time
40% - Analyze acoustic data with existing software.
20% - Collaborate with USGS scientists on field data collections.
20% - Investigate the spatial patterns.

Requirements
Ph.D. in fisheries, ecology, marine biology, bioinformatics, limnology or related fields. 
Strong quantitative background: ability to deal with large datasets using computational methods, proficiency in R or other applicable software packages, ability to develop scripts for R and Echoview, and statistical modeling.
Interest in fisheries, fisheries acoustics, aquatic ecology, and spatial ecology.
Evidence of ability to work collaboratively as well as independently. 
Supervision Exercised
The individual is not expected to supervise others.
