The Center for Applied Research on Work (CAROW) is a hub for collaborative applied research efforts across the ILR School and the university. CAROW connects research on work with the practice of putting it to use. CAROW provides a platform for new interdisciplinary approaches, innovative methods, and nimble resourcing with the goal of bringing high quality research to bear on the challenges facing today&rsquo;s labor markets and connecting that research to external stakeholders and policy makers. Utilizing trainings, convenings, and new tool development CAROW advances the work of faculty and institutes conducting translational labor research and brings them together to drive new insights.</p><p><b><br>
Responsibilities:</b></p><p>
This position will contribute to ongoing research projects with Artificial Intelligence (AI) focus related to the Center for Applied Research on Work (CAROW).</p><p><br>
Responsibilities include: the utilization of direct data and secondary data sources for research; use and analysis of quantitative data in concert with extensive in-depth literature reviews and related written summaries targeting AI topics; completion of human subjects review requests to the Cornell IRB; design of interview and focus groups protocols; analysis of qualitative data results from interviews and focus groups; survey design, data collection, and analysis; analysis of relevant secondary data; writing of reports, scholarly articles, grant applications, as well as research-to-practice briefs, and practitioner journal articles.</p><p><br>
The incumbent will work under the supervision of Professor Ariel Avgar supporting AI focused CAROW research projects. The position will commence on September 1, 2026, for a 12-month appointment.</p><p><b><br>
Appointment Details:</b></p><ul><li>
This is a full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with an initial one-year appointment from September 1, 2026 &ndash; August 31, 2027.</li><li>
No teaching responsibilities are required for this position.</li><li>
The Postdoctoral Associate will receive regular supervision and mentorship from Professor Ariel Avgar.</li><li>
The Postdoctoral Associate will receive $70,000.00 in salary as well as a research budget of $2,000.00.</li></ul><p></p><p>

Requirements:</b></p><ul><li>
Applicant must have a PhD in labor relations, sociology, management, economics, applied statistics or related fields completed within five years of starting the position.</li><li>
Applicant must have demonstrated interest and scholarly efforts in AI or other related topics.</li><li>
Applicants must have experience in the handling and organization of large data sets.
</li><li>Familiarity with analysis of panel or longitudinal data and working with multilevel models is valued.
</li><li>Additional skills with mixed methods research on related topics, including surveys, interviews, focus groups is preferred, but not required.</li><li>
Must have expertise in using statistical software such as STATA, R, SAS or SPSS.

This position will be based in the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics (Yang Center), one of six programmatic centers within the Lab. The Yang Center&rsquo;s mission is to collect and interpret sounds in nature by developing and applying innovative technologies across multiple ecologically relevant scales to inspire and inform the conservation of wildlife and habitats. Our highly interdisciplinary team of scientists, educators, engineers, students, and research support personnel are working with many national and international collaborators on a wide variety of terrestrial, aquatic, and marine bioacoustic research projects tackling conservation issues worldwide.</p><p><br>
The incumbent will join a research group led by Dr. Dena J. Clink to develop, evaluate, and apply quantitative methods for large-scale biodiversity monitoring and conservation. The research will leverage existing passive acoustic monitoring datasets from Southeast Asia, with a focus on priority taxa, including gibbons, langurs, Asian elephants, and focal bird species such as green peafowl, giant ibis, and sarus crane. The successful candidate will build reproducible machine learning pipelines, integrate detections into spatial ecological models, and generate conservation-relevant outputs for regional partners. The incumbent will join a research group led by Dr. Dena J. Clink to develop, evaluate, and apply quantitative methods for large-scale biodiversity monitoring and conservation. Position Function</p><div><p>
The project scope offers an opportunity to advance both applied conservation practice and fundamental ecological understanding. The incumbent will refine automated detection models for species of conservation concern and integrate model outputs into occupancy, abundance, and habitat-use frameworks to address applied ecological questions. The position is also highly collaborative: the incumbent will work closely with NGO and academic partners in Southeast Asia, including partners in Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Responsibilities will include coordinating with in-country partners on study design, validation workflows, and result interpretation, with an emphasis on building local analytical capacity and ensuring reproducibility. Approximately 3-4 weeks of international travel will be expected per year.</p><p><br>
In addition to collaborating with external partners, the postdoctoral associate will work closely with scientists in the Yang Center and across Cornell. The incumbent will have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students and visiting scholars on related projects. The incumbent will be encouraged to develop independent research questions aligned with the project's broader goals and to serve as first author on manuscripts.</p><p><br>
This position is a one-year appointment, renewed annually upon successful performance. Further extension is contingent upon funding.</p></div><div></div><div><p>
Anticipated Division of Time</p><p>
Expected outcomes include submitting manuscripts to high-impact peer-reviewed journals in ecology, conservation, and quantitative methods (approximately two per year) and coordinating with regional partners to directly apply results to conservation efforts in Southeast Asia. There is no required fieldwork, but the incumbent would be encouraged to spend some time (e.g., three weeks per year) in the field with local partners.</p><div><ul><li>

<div>The Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County Custodian provides custodian service in assigned areas for Extension Education Center. Clean, dust, polish, vacuum, wet mop, sweep, and maintain floors on a regular basis. Deep and general cleaning of all offices, common areas, meeting rooms, teaching kitchen, commercial kitchen, storage areas, and entryways. Empty/clean all waste receptacles, remove trash, compostables, and recyclable materials. Use and maintain assigned equipment and hand tools while ensuring storage room is orderly and neat. Clean restroom facilities daily; supply with sufficient paper products. Wash walls, windows, and sills on a regular basis. Sweep/shovel snow from stair/walks to building; keep entrances clean from debris. Responsible for complying with all OSHA/PESH safety regulations in performance of duties.<br>

The Associate Dean for Administration, as leader of this management effort, is the chief administrative officer for the College of Arts and Sciences and is a member of the senior staff of the college. Provides senior level administrative counsel and direction to the Deans, Department Chairs, Directors and academic department managers on a routine basis. As a member of the college&rsquo;s senior staff, participates in long-term planning and priorities setting and resource allocation. Provides administrative leadership and oversight for the Non-Academic administration of the college and its departments including budget and finance; human resources and departmental staffing; facilities planning and management; and information technology and reporting. In collaboration with department chairs and directors, establishes expectations and provides oversight and direction for the work of the academic department managers. In coordination with the Dean&rsquo;s activities, represents the college in university venues, participates in Cornell&rsquo;s College Officer&rsquo;s Group, university committees and other institutional activities, and champions college issues across the university community. Must also demonstrate an earnest commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility initiatives by actively contributing to efforts to foster an academic workplace climate that is welcoming, supportive and creates a sense of belonging for all.</p><p><br>
Responsibilities include: short- and long-term budget planning and implementation in support of the academic goals and fiscal health of the college; oversight of the financial and human resource planning and operations of the college; allocation of staff across departments; development and implementation of facilities and space plans; direction of the college&rsquo;s capital plan; development and maintenance of an administrative organization and culture that complements and supports the academic enterprise.</p><p><b><br>
Required Qualifications:
</b></p><p>General qualifications should include a bachelor&rsquo;s degree (advanced degree desired) and a minimum of 10 years of management experience, preferably at a senior level in an environment related to higher education, strong leadership skills, excellent judgment and negotiating ability, and superior communication skills. Evidence of a capacity to work successfully in a variety of the relevant areas is welcomed. Keen interest in, and enthusiasm for, the overall workings and philosophy of higher education is desirable. They should evidence an effective, flexible, and well-disciplined approach to leading and managing the complex, decentralized administration of an Ivy League arts and sciences college embedded in a major research and land-grant university. A strong academic sensibility and a sense of humor are major assets. <b>Critical competencies for success:</b></p><ul><li>
