Job Overview:A Commercial Glazier Project Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial glass and glazing projects (e.g., curtain walls, storefronts, windows, glass partitions). Here&rsquo;s a breakdown of all typical job duties across the project lifecycle.Duties Included:Pre-Construction / Planning Phase1. Review Project Documents:<ul><li>Study architectural plans, specifications, shop drawings, and glazing schedules.</li><li>Identify scope, special conditions, and risks.</li><li>Ensure code compliance (e.g., fire ratings, thermal performance, wind loads).</li></ul>2. Estimating Support (if involved in pre-bid):<ul><li>Collaborate with estimators to understand project cost structure.</li><li>Assist in identifying VE (Value Engineering) opportunities.</li></ul>3. Material &amp; System Selection:<ul><li>Coordinate with vendors to select glass types, framing systems, sealants, and accessories.</li><li>Evaluate lead times, availability, and compatibility with project specs.</li></ul>4. Budget Development:<ul><li>Finalize budgets for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.</li><li>Establish cost tracking systems.</li></ul>5. Scheduling:<ul><li>Develop detailed project schedules using software like Procore.</li><li>Coordinate milestone dates with general contractors and other trades.</li></ul>Project Execution / Construction Phase6. Procurement &amp; Logistics:<ul><li>Order all glass, metal framing, hardware, sealants, and specialty components.</li><li>Manage lead times and delivery coordination.</li><li>Ensure materials are on-site when needed and in proper condition.</li></ul>7. Submittals &amp; Approvals:<ul><li>Submit shop drawings, material samples, and mock-ups to GC/architect for approval.</li><li>Track RFIs (Requests for Information) and changes.</li></ul>8. Field Coordination:<ul><li>Schedule and supervise field crews (glaziers, foremen, installers).</li><li>Coordinate with site superintendents, other trades, and safety officers.</li><li>Resolve job site issues.</li></ul>9. Quality Control:<ul><li>Ensure proper installation techniques.</li><li>Monitor sealants, spacing, anchoring, and waterproofing.</li><li>Conduct field measurements and inspections.</li></ul>10. Safety Management:<ul><li>Enforce OSHA standards and company safety policies.</li><li>Hold toolbox talks and jobsite safety audits.</li></ul>Project Controls &amp; Communication11. Cost Tracking &amp; Forecasting:<ul><li>Monitor labor hours, material usage, change orders, and productivity.</li><li>Identify and mitigate cost overruns.</li><li>Submit monthly billing and pay applications.</li></ul>12. Change Management:<ul><li>Identify and document change orders.</li><li>Price and submit COs with supporting documentation.</li><li>Negotiate approvals with GC or client.</li></ul>13. Documentation &amp; Reporting:<ul><li>Maintain project logs: RFIs, submittals, COs, meeting notes, deliveries.</li><li>Provide regular status updates to internal and external stakeholders.</li></ul>14. Meetings &amp; Coordination:<ul><li>Attend OAC (Owner/Architect/Contractor) meetings.</li><li>Lead internal project meetings with fabrication, logistics, and installation teams.</li></ul>15. Client Relations:<ul><li>Serve as the main point of contact for clients/GCs.</li><li>Maintain professionalism and responsiveness.</li></ul>Closeout Phase16. Punch Lists:<ul><li>Walk the project with GC or architect to complete punch list items.</li><li>Coordinate rework or replacement as needed.</li></ul>17. As-Built Drawings &amp; Documentation:<ul><li>Provide final drawings, warranties, and O&amp;M (Operations &amp; Maintenance) manuals.</li></ul>18. Project Handoff &amp; Lessons Learned:<ul><li>Conduct internal debriefs on project performance.</li><li>Archive project documentation.</li><li>Contribute to company knowledge base for process improvement.</li></ul>Additional Responsibilities19.
