<p></p><div><div>The <b>17th Judicial Circuit Court of Kent County</b> is seeking a self-motivated and detail-oriented <b>Judicial Clerk</b> to perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties both inside and outside the courtroom. This position provides skilled and complex legal clerical support under the direction of the Circuit Court Judges.<br>
<br>
<b>Key Responsibilities:</b></div><ul><li>
Schedule arraignments, hearings, conferences, depositions, trials, sentencings, and other court actions for a variety of case types, including felony criminal, domestic relations, juvenile, child protective, adoption, civil, and appeals cases</li><li>
Prepare and distribute correspondence and notices for scheduled court proceedings</li><li>
Draft orders and other legal documents required to execute sentences and judgments</li><li>
Respond to inquiries in person, by phone, and in writing from prosecutors, attorneys, defendants, plaintiffs, victims, law enforcement agencies, and other jurisdictions</li><li>
Use computerized case management and video recording systems to maintain accurate case records</li><li>
Recall and close bench warrants as directed</li></ul><div><b><br>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<div><p>A high school diploma or equivalent, combined with post-secondary training in legal or court procedures <b><i>or</i></b><i> </i>two years of Para-professional experience in a legal environment, is required for this position. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.<br>

<b>A successful candidate will possess:</b></p><ul><li>
Strong computer skills and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and email software</li><li>
Working knowledge of office procedures and legal documentation practices</li><li>
Familiarity with legal terminology</li><li>
Professional demeanor and the ability to interact effectively via oral and written communication, with internal and external customers</li></ul></div><p></p>

The successful candidate will perform duties associated with warrant writing, negotiating settlements, trying District and Circuit Court misdemeanor and felony cases and appearing in various courts of the County as a representative of the Office of the Prosecutor. Will perform legal research, and discuss legal problems with citizens, officials, and law enforcement agencies.</p></div><p></p>
<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum Qualifications</b></h2></div>
<div><p><b>Required:</b> Graduation from an accredited law school and membership in the State Bar of Michigan. Those that have taken the State Bar Exam but are still awaiting results may be considered. Working knowledge of accepted courtroom practices and procedures, knowledge of legal research and reference sources, and basic computer literacy are required.</p></div>
